Windows XP Mode

A few months ago, Microsoft have announced that they had integrated in Windows 7 a feature Windows XP Mode (XPM).

A Windows XP Virtual Environment made in order to help businesses move smoothly to Windows 7 and to provide better compatibility with some applications in Windows 7 .

Windows XP Mode

Well, Microsoft have published free versions of Windows XP Mode and Virtual PC Release Candidate available for Windows 7 RC or RTM users.

These versions bring some new features such as :

- possibility to attach USB devices to Windows XP Mode applications directly from the Windows 7 task-bar
- possibility to access Windows XP Mode applications with a "jump-list"
- possibility to disable drive sharing between Windows XP Mode and Windows 7 if you do not need that feature
- etc. (for more, click here)

Windows XP Mode

Windows XP mode requires a CPU with the AMD Virtualization Technology or Intel, but also additional 1 GB of RAM and 15 GB of available disk space. It will only run on Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Windows 7 Ultimate editions.

Hopefully you're getting Professional or above Uttaresh or you can't use it at all.

Make sure that you have equipment that can do virtualization as well or it won't work.

Yeah, you'll need professional or above.

Also you'll need to make sure that virtualization is on in your BIOS (if you had AMD it goes on and off as needed).

I just upgraded to the RC and it runs much faster.

Then I guess I won't be using Windows XP mode. Doesn't really make a difference to me as long as Photoshop and all my programming software work. : )

Which it will. I would know since I completely switched to the RC.
