Recently, Microsoft has launched their latest update of their free software to create and edit panoramas :
Image Composite Editor.

Panorama with ICE

Well, unless that you have a digital camera with a wide-angle allowing you to take photographs a landscape as awhole, most of the time, for creating panoramas, you need a software such as
Stitcher, Hugin (based on Panorama Tools), The Panorama Factory, Autostich and many others.

Simple, requiring few adjustments and free, Microsoft Image Composite Editor (Microsoft ICE) allows you to create a panorama from several shots (photos which must be overlapped).
In fact, after importing your photographs, Microsoft ICE will research all common points between each of them, correct the different exposures and assemble the photographs in order to realize your panorama.
Then, you can vary the angle of view, adjust it, intensify or diminish effects... and save your panorama in a wide variety of formats like TIFF, JPEG, PNG, BMP,etc. but also multi-resolution tiled formats like HD View and Silverlight Deep Zoom.
