The Adobe Creative Suite CS6 is announced for 2012. But recently, some rumors appeared on the web : a CS5.5 release will be coming soon.
Rumors confirmed (not for the number of version) tuesday by
Shantanu Narayen, PDG of Adobe, during the First Quarter FY11 Earnings Conference Call.
Indeed,
Shantanu Narayen unveiled that a « mid-cycle release to CS5 » will be available later this year.
A CS5.x, an intermediate version, which will include the next version of Acrobat, but also improvements in terms of digital publishing, multiscreen management and
« new innovative features in areas like HTML and Flash authoring, application creation, and video authoring and production. This version will start to focus on both integration of the Creative Suite with the Digital Publishing Suite ».
We don't have any more details at the moment. No release date has been announced for the CS5.x, excluding the fact that it will be available later this year, and we don't know if this version will be free or paid for people who have already the CS5.
However, Shantanu Narayen said :
I think for the amount of fundamental innovation that continues to go in, a 24-month cycle is a good timeframe for us to update most of the customers. But there's significant value that we can continue to provide on an annual basis, and that really is our goal.
So, as Adobe CS5 was released on the end of April 2010, we can imagine the arrival of CS5.x in a few weeks.
Wait and see...
