There are just over a week, Google has changed their favicon (see news "Special Flash: Google change their favicon"

Recall that the favicon is the small icon which situated on your browser address bar. For example, on CrystalXP it is a TinyTux.
Go back to Google. After testing more 300 possibilities, the team selected the favicon that we can actually see on our browsers.
The lukewarm reception of Internet users leads Google to look for ideas and to solicit help of designers. For this occasion, we launch a new "collaborative topic" on our forum. The aim : suggest THE favicon which will be adopted by Google.
The clock is running, we have until 20th June 2008 to propose a favicon
