You have certainly noticed that Google change regulary their logo to call up a specific event (national holiday, birthday of famous people or a special event...).
Well, today it is a hot air balloon !
Invented in 1782 by the brothers Josef and Etienne Montgolfier, the hot air balloon made its official first flight (alone, anybody in the nacelle), in the sky of Annonay, France, 225 years ago ! A real revolution for the time !
We don't celebrate only this birthday of the first public flight of the hot aire ballon, but we also celebrate the one of the first woman balloonist !

Elisabeth Thible, of course, we already knew it ! She was the first woman to ride a balloon, on June 4, 1786 !
A little info:
The first experimental flight made with a cock, a sheep and a duck on September 19, 1783.
The first balloon flight with humans on board took place on October 19, 1783 with Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier, Jean-Baptiste Réveillon and Giroud de Villette, at the Folie Titon in actual Paris. Officially, the first flight was 1 month later, 21 November 1783.
Today, the balloon is used mainly as means of relaxation!
If one day you decided to fly, I strongly recommend you to choose the person who will take you.
Do not make like the priest Adelir Antonio de Carli, who decided to start the record of the longest trip in a balloon !
Mission accomplished because to date we have no trace of him !
