The short animated film
"Big Buck Bunny", made using entirely free open source software by the Blender Foundation, is available
for free download since May 30.
You already knew it ? Of course, everyone is only talking about it on the web.
On CrystalXP, dlb has not yet spoken ! Shame on you dlb !
Well, ok... you will tell me that I could also do it, and you are right !
But , it is not easy to get into the house of the team without making noise !
Go, without further, I give you some explanations about the film:
There are eight months ago, in Amsterdam, after their previous film,
Elephants Dream , Blender Foundation, managed by Ton Roosendaal, decided to release a new 3D short animated, under the operating system
Ubuntu, with free open source software like:
-
Blender, open source 3D content creation suite for modeling and 3D rendering
-
Inkscape, a vector graphics editor application,
-
GIMP, open source software for photo retouching and numerical image creating
-
Subversion, a version control system software
-
Python, software for programming
This small gem lasts approximately 10 minutes, and if I tell you "gem" is that I had the chance to watch it in Full HD: the result is simply remarkable! The hair texture of animals, their expressions ... 10 minutes, too short for my taste, we still want ! I cannot tell you more but judge by yourself!
Some would say that the storyline is a little low: a big rabbit pursued in the forest by curious rodents, the war is declared between them ... Others would speak of the lack of realism in some audible sound or sometimes the lack of flexibility in the movements of the characters.
However, we must remember that the primary purpose of the Foundation Blender is to show that with free open source software tools, accessible to everyone, we can achieve great things; the second is to improve the software Blender.
Since Friday, the film is available
for free download on the official website in various encodings, and if you wish to support the future projects of the Foundation Blender, you can buy the DVD of the film (there are bonus like commentary tracks by the creators, video tutorials by the team members, storyboards..)
We are eager to watch the next court animated !
