A news to inform the community of Linux that Novell announced the official release of Moonlight 2.0, an open source implementation of Microsoft Silverlight for Unix systems.

Well, it's at approximately a month after Microsoft released the first testing preview of Silverlight 4 that Moonlight 2.0 has been made available for download ! A new version 100 % compatible with Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 and which contains some features from Silverlight 3.0.

On the menu of Moonlight 2.0:

- CLR (Common Language Runtime) engine
- smooth streaming
- the languages used by Visual Studio in the environment .NET like C#, IronPython, IronRuby, Javascript...
- Vorbis and Dirac codecs
- partial out-of-browser support
- etc. (for more click here or there)

Moonlight 2.0 work on any modern 32bit and 64bit Linux distributions under Firefox 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5.

I'm happy that there are people working on software like this. : ) But perhaps it would have been better if Microsoft would've made their software cross-platform themselves..?

Microsoft devs are probably heavily involved in Moonlight, as Microsoft and Novell have somekind of an agreement. (http://www.novell.com/linux/microsoft/)
