Just a little news to inform you that Microsoft have published the final version of Internet Explorer 8 !
Two-and-a-half years after IE7, few months after the launch of Google Chrome, the release of Opera 9.6 and recently the arrival of Apple Safari 4 in beta version, it's today that Windows Internet Explorer 8 final version is available for download !
A version very expected because this year its share of market declined at the hands of a increasing competition.
So, this new version of this Microsoft web browser will succeed to conquer users who prefer using Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, etc. ?
This update of Internet explorer building on security, rapidity and compatibility with web standard, brings some bugs fixed and many new functionalities.
The new features of Internet Explorer 8 :
- a better security :
an update of the list of malwares and phishing websites
SmartScreen filter added : it protect you against inadvertent installation of malware, or malicious software which can compromise your data, privacy, and identity while also damaging your computer and valuable data
InPrivate Browsing and filtering added and "delete browsing history" improved
- Compatibility View toolbar button to display the website as viewed in Internet Explorer 7, which will correct display problems like misaligned text, images, or text boxes.
- Internet Explorer 8 starts quickly, loads pages fast and instantly gets you started on what you want to do next with a powerful new tab page. In addition, the script engine in Internet Explorer 8 is significantly faster than in previous versions, minimizing the load time for webpages based on JavaScript or Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX).
- Accelerators make it faster and easier to perform common tasks online by making Web-based services such as ESPN.com, Live Search and Sina available for use directly from the page people are viewing. Users can simply right-click a word or phrase and instantly map, e-mail, or share it.
- Web Slices in Internet Explorer 8 makes favorite information from sites such as Digg, Yahoo! Mail, OneRiot, and eBay instantly available wherever someone goes on the Web.
- Tab Groups included, which make tabbed browsing easier. When one tab is opened from another, the new tab is placed next to the originating tab and color coded, so that you can quickly see which tabs have related content...

I suspect this won't be replacing Chrome or Safari 4, or even my most hated browser Firefox, but ah well.

When I downloaded I remember reading that it was Vista and Windows 7 only :/
Well I tried it out, firstly the webpages on microsoft for "Why you should use IE8" and "Webspeed comparisons" wouldn't work, they couldn't find them!
Secondly though it opened instantly it hanged for at least 10 seconds while loading the addons/toolbars and then the welcome page wouldn't work (Returned a weird error)
After using it for a short time to browse I closed it, went on Google Chrome, and that was the end of that.
