Some time ago,
Fazz has presented Aviary, the new online software suite (with name of bird) that makes its nest little by little.
Well, know that recently,
Toucan software joined
Phoenix and
Peacock in
beta version and
Raven hatched in
alpha version, such as the Firefox extension
Talon.
For those who have never really heard speaking about this suite, I invite you to read
the article of Fazz and here a little recall about the applications.
Begin with
Phoenix,
an image editor and photo retouching, which thanks to many tools (brush, magic wand, blend modes...), management layers, filters, layers masks... (for more, click
here), that allows you to realize a lot of effects and creations like Photoshop and Gimp.
Moreover, you can visit
this page that shows many creations made with Phoenix and also
this one with many tutorials in order to help you use this software. You can watch this video, too :
Peacock is
a visual laboratory for creating pattern, textures... through many generators (clouds, fractal, noise, waves...) and effects, the whole in an original interface :
If you want more information about this application, follow
this way and click
here.
About
Toucan, this application
gives you the features you need to inject color into your creative process.
You can find a demonstration of Toucan
here.
As to
Raven and
Talon, the first is
an vector editor like Adobe illustrator, and the second is a
plug-in for Firefox that allows you
to perform screen capturing (like
Screengrab).
There are still other software to come :
Eagle, a pixel pattern recognition
Hummingbird, a 3D modeler
Myna, an audio editor
Owl, a desktop publishing
Penguin, an online Word
Woodpecker, a smart image resizer
Pigeon, a painting simulator, etc. (complete list
here).
Brief, whereof we occupy or realize nice things. After who knows if these many applications will be free or paying !
Yes, some people think that this online software suite is free. In fact, Aviary suggests
a free version available to everyone at all times (no limited period),
but only for several applications like Phoenix, Peacock and Toucan, and
only for 50 creations for your personal use (no commercial use).
Raven and Talon, being in alpha version, aren't available in the free version. You must subscribe to the paid version in order to use them :
- The
Green, where you can choose between a monthly or an annual subscription. You have the possibility to save all the Phoenix creations you want and up to 50 creations in other applications.
- The
Blue, with an annual subscription, you access to all the applications and
you can save all the creations you want.
Moreover,
a lot of tutorials proposed on the website aren't directly accessible. To access to many tutorials, you should subscribe a paid version.
Come on, if you want try :

Peacock, it is
