Who said that we do not talk about Linux in the news of CrystalXP.net ?
Well, from now, it will be forbidden to say it ! : p
Today is a great day on CrystalXP.net because we will talk about KDE for workstations Linux ! : party:

KDE Kongi

First, here is a small reminder KDE :
KDE or K Desktop Environment, whose the mascot is a small green dragon called Kongi, is a network contemporary desktop environment for Linux platforms that offers a transparent access to the network and which is similar to the desktop environments available under the operating systems Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X (note that Linux and Mac OS X form a part of the same family of operating systems).
KDE constitutes a completely free and open computing platform available to anyone free of charge, including the source code for anyone who would like to change it.

On 29 July 2008, the final version KDE 4.1 was released. This new version of KDE is the first major development of KDE 4. It brings many improvements, but also new features and applications such as:

- Dolphin, the file manager which supports now tabs
KDE Dolphin

- the panel configuration, Plasma, has been extended, (everything has been improved: the appearance, performance, more easy and flexible for use...)
KDE Plasma

- KDE-PIM, the management suite of personal data, is integrated (KMail as mail client, KOrganizer as planning component, etc.)
KDE-PIM

- Dragon Player, a new video player
- KDE applications can be written using Python and Ruby (it concerns more developers)
- Etc. (more)

Now, the operating system OpenSolaris is well supported by KDE 4.1, despite a few bugs. Some applications may also run under Windows, and currently KDE is preparing their arrival on MAC OS X.
For more information, click here for OpenSolaris, here for Windows and this way for Mac OS X.

Small remark : If you had already the occasion to use KDE with previous versions, you have probably noticed that icons are no longer the "Crystal" icons of Everaldo ! : cry:
Since the version 4.0, these are the icons "Oxygen" that we see.
