After Chrome, Google have announced that they will release an operating system called Chrome Operating System.
An open source operating system (they will open-source its code at the end of this year) which is a new project, separate from
Android because Chrome OS is based on Linux kernel. According to
Sundar Pichai, VP Product Management and
Linus Upson, Engineering Director,
speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS.
Turned 100% towards web, the idea is to have an operating system which will start up in a few seconds and will instantaneously connect with Internet in order to access web applications
without users have to deal with viruses, malware and security updates.
Scheduled for the second half of 2010, this operating system will initially be targeted at netbooks, it will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips.
You have certainly understood, this OS won't probably be designed to use software such as Photoshop, Gimp... or to play with your favorite video game.
Fortunately, there are many online tools (free or not) like
Photoshop Express, the online software suite
Aviary,
Sumopaint...
