Softimage XSI is a 3D modeling and 3D animation software (it also includes a rendering engine) very used in the professional world like Autodesk Maya , Autodesk 3D Studio Max , Houdini, Lightwave, etc.
This complete suite of 3D creation is mainly present in the advertising agencies for its competences in animation and special effects, in cinema, but also for many video games such as Half Life 2, Prince of Persia (The Sands of Time), Resident Evil 4...
Recently, the latest version of the 3D suite of Softimage was launched.
This new version was very looked for and it brings many new features.
The most important is the integration of the module ICE or Interactive Creative Environment based on the assembling of nodes : no script , not a line of code so not need particular knowledge in programming, each user can develop the tools of the software and can publicize the improvements (such as the Open Source system) in order to everyone benefits it.
So, ICE transforms XSI from a simple product to an open, scalable, powerful and flexible platform, artists are not only users but also actors.
Thanks to this new technology, now it is possible to create complex 3D effects...

On the menu of other new features:
- the arrival of a new core Gigacore II which improves the core architecture of XSI
- the updating of the rendering engine Mental Ray (integration of version 3.6) for rendering and lighting
- a new system referencing Delta II
- Render Tree now uses the ICE interface thereby improving the interface and the workflow of the user

Of course, this fabulous software is not free, it can run under Windows and Linux. Expensive, it exists in several versions (for professionals, students...), but we can download a 30 day trial of XSI, so for those who are interested, it is by this way.
