Yes, very well on SP1 (or I acctually use to)

But since SP2 I can only and unfortunately say no
simply because it's more complex to change those 16 default color into some other colors
On SP1 it was taking the color from the indexed color, integrated into the image file
Now it's somewhat a bit more complex

But I can very easely change your logon screen (it would be better if you don't use multiusers)
My logon would be just the image without the text (welcome, loading ... etc...)
What I actually do is take an exiting logon that works that way and just change the image with ResHack

So if you want one like that just tell me or post a link of the image you want

(You make me want to change mine to another image, I now have the apple/mac logo from a wallpaper I found on the net  :mdr: )

Hey

I made 2 logins one for each image

Download them here

Citation :

I'd like the text and avatar to be placed in the door...

I'm sorry I didn't do it that way, it's to much of a pain for me ...

I'm not responsible of any damage done to your computer
but everything should work, if you follow exactly as I tell you
I'll change mine at the same time, so I'll show you some screenshots
the worse thing that could happend (And might be the only thing that could happend)
is "simply" windows that won't boot
you can recover that "pretty easly" if you have the xp CD
not to reinstall WinXP, but there is a Dos like thing with the CD (called : repair a exiting WinXp, or something like that)
You'll just have to delete logonui.exe and rename logonui.exe.bak into logonui.exe
type exit to reboot and everything should work
(type help to have the rename command)

I've done it, it has happend to me at the beginning, because I didn't use the right version (WinXP basic instead of a SP1 version), that's how I learn fast, went it crash and nobody tells you how to do it, LOL :he:  :he:  :he:
SO be sure to have WinXP SP2, US version

before you do anything go to
C:\WINDOWS\system32
and make a backup copy of logonui.exe
make a copy in the same folder and call it logonui.exe.bak
you can do anothers one if you'd like

I hope I didn't scare you to much, LOL  :he:
again every thing should work if you do exactly as I say

And with Bricomix program it's even more safe, on WinXP SP1 I use to do every thing by hand

Then use that program:

http://www.bricomix.net/dl.php?id=4

you can download it directly from here
http://www.bricomix.net/go.php?prog=4

It was made by one of the CrystalXP team

you need Framework .Net (available on Windows update)

It's in french but you don't care about that, it's very easy:

install it and run it:

you'll have two boxes to fill out
the first one is to tell the program were is located the new logonui.exe you want to use
on the right of that box you have a browse button (use it)

then on the second box (if you have the english version) you tell the program were is located the actual version of the logonui.exe (in you case the original one)

and check the box located right under
 those lines

here's a screenshot

http://eliaden002.free.fr/crystal/lockedcopy.jpg
I have a visual bug with the buttons, I'll have to find another theme

Then when you press OK you should have that

http://eliaden002.free.fr/crystal/lockedcopy2.jpg
It's saying that every thing worked fine, and that you don't need to restart

I remember having a different message some other time telling me to reboot

I either cases I would reboot right away

Voila

I'm sorry but the way I explained to you don't work for the logonui.exe

but it does work for replacing the shell32.dll

I'm not responsible of any damage done to your computer

So you just have to go in safe mode (F8 when starting up the PC, press it even many times)

before you do anything go to
C:\WINDOWS\system32
and make a backup copy of logonui.exe
make a copy in the same folder and call it logonui.exe.bak
you can do anothers one if you'd like

then copy the new logonui.exe and past it there and replace the other one:
C:\WINDOWS\system32

then just reboot

So...I still dont see what to do from here? I've done a backup of the logonui.exe(bak)
Do I just copy those (look at the screenshot) into C:/Windows/SYSTEM32 ?

you choose one of the two I sent to you

go to safe mode

and copy the one I gave you and replace (paste) it in C:/Windows/SYSTEM32

I just did it and it's working fine with me

press F8 on your keyboard many times when your computer start
from the first moment you're compuer is turned on and before the windows screen

you have different choices

the first one should be safe mode select it
you won't have internet unless you choose sfamode with network or something like that
it's the second one on the list

you'll have a warning screen afterwards juste say OK
It's just saying that you are in safe mode

Then do what I said earlier
