Hi. :meuh:

I'm opening this topic because I'ven't  found any other related.

:penguin:

I think that the actual license is quite resctrictive and it's avoiding many people to use freedomly all the work being done here. I am not using this artwork in many of my sites because of this restrictions.
 :boulay:

Many GNU/linux distributions and other OSs could benefit and spread this FANTASTIC and GEORGOUS and EVERYTHIN artwork of this site.
Now it's complicated to ask author for permission to any other than personal use, becuase I've tried asking some time ago and nobody answers me.

Tux gallery is quite incompatible with tux lovers. How could exists a Tux under a restrictive lincense?
In a point, I think this could be as far as illegal, because the original tux n tosh I think was distributed under a GPL license (or similar), which obligates to derived works to be released under the same license. But this is a maybe.

So, my purpose goes on the direction of letting people choose the terms of redistribution of their artwork.
This could be really helpfull. It could be adopted a free Creative Commons licence, or a GPL, or any art related free license, depending on the author decission.

Well, we are precisely thinking about tux licence within the Team.
I suggested this licence http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/.
But we have to see the advantages and disadvantage and, most of all, the possible consequences of this decision.
Then we will explain our point of view with the author and let him decide.  :jap:

It's difficult because some users just speak French, other people have submitted a tux but never come on the forum, ...
Or maybe you just don't had luck and the person has forgoten your message.

Well, if you have a look at the "about" part of tux n tosh, you will see :

Citation :

I had to thank Everaldo again for creating this unique tux look, and for giving me the permission tu use that look [...]

So, this tux is not under GPL licence.
And Everaldo lets CrystalXP Team to check and decide authorized use of this tux.  :jap:
But, as I said, we are thinking about a "more free" licence, like Creative Commons.

Wait and see.

Well, we normally ask people to do that to respect the works done by others and most of the time you'll never get 'No' as an answer

but it's true that in some situations, you won't hear from the author,
I'm not going to explain that since Xorios has

That'll be a good solution for future :oui:

Plus:* :ar: Xorios,I think that the author should design that whether his creation could be distributed with without his permission (won't it be better if author must write his own lisence for his creation which means whether others want to ask his permission or not when his creation is chosen ?? )
