I have recently notice that my computer is using 2gb of ram with no aplications running why is this? Its suposed to only take up 1 gb to run it. This really bothers me why Im using soo much ram. I have 4 gb of ram total its DRR2 as far as I know.

Also explorer.exe is taking up more Ram than normal.

If anyone knows anyway to help me it would be great!

Well, I have XP and my explorer never takes less than 75,000K RAM. So it's not unusual for Vista, I guess.

The requirement for XP is 128MB minimum or so and 256MB recommended. Yet mine never takes less than 500MB. I guess Microsoft lies a lot. :/

XP usually takes around 600mb max, and vista around 1gib due to additional processes.
antivirus etc take around 50mb max.

also, there is an option to keep all drivers etc in RAM memory or paged memory as needed, and to prefer programs than system processes.

I also agree with truth
Since Windows Vista comes with several additions (Which I won't say very attractive) Those can take some to lot of your memory
As this thread says If you're using 'Windows Aero + Side Bar + Tool Tip
This can cause some burden on your RAM ;)

turtle bacon :ar:
But I can't accept your saying of 2GB RAM usage as normal becausa if  that is so, I may not be able to do anything with Vista in my computer :666:
So better to check for any abnormally running processes (This may not be easy as it implies but persons with knowledge can give you some hand :D

One of my friends has Kaspersky - the full deal - and I still spend half my time fixing his computer of viruses and cookies. And overheating after he leaves it on in an aeroplane...

Get CCleaner, select Tools, then the Startup, and delete/disable all the crap. :)
Or just post a screenshot of it, and I'll tell what is crap.
