poiru Profil: Moderator | You can use Vista Rainbar to get the sidebar. To change the icons, you can use something like IconTweaker or IconPackager and use a Vista icon pack. ---------------

You are in a support forum, so the people who get it right won't come here (usually). Only the small amount of people with problems come here. And yes, it's better to install in safe-mode.
The Bricopack itself won't use that much memory, but the additional programs (RocketDock, TransBar, Y'z Shadow, etc.) will. You can disable those additional programs, though ---------------

The performance you've stated is more than enough to install the bricopack

Nope VistaCG is just a visual style, you don't need to uninstall it

Try to go to the Display Settings>Appearence & Apply the visual style If this is not possible, Which Windows service pack you have? Is it Vista Inspirat 1.0 you installed or 2.1 ? | |

Go to Display properties>Desktop Tab and press 'Customize Desktop' button, there you can tick the icons that you want to show/hide in your desktop. There, you can select to hide the icons (Unfortunately, you cannot hide the recycle bin in this manner in XP )
There is a small hint in my mind to do this but it has gone so deep since it has been a long time with my past experience with XP
There is no updating of Bricopacks like Windows update, The latest bricopack version is Inspirat 2.1 (You need to uninstall any previous version to install another
