First of all thanks for the Tutorial.....

Half way done your method, still have to boot in safe mode and do the following steps....

Will update when i done that... Or Is there a way to use a patched uxtheme from others.

So that you can send me the file that you have patched for Win XP HE SP1,  :ouch:

Thanks anyway...

To patch UXTHEME Manually here's the method I recommend: :ar: Click "Start" ---> "Run" and enter "%systemdrive%".  This will open the drive where Windows is installed (usually c:).  Create a new folder here called "uxtheme".
:ar: Download the correct UXTHEME patch for your edition of Windows into the "uxtheme" folder.
Windows XP SP1 users should use this patch
Windows Server 2003 (RTM) users should use this patch
:caution: If you are using any other edition or version of Windows (e.g Windows XP SP2) you must not use the patch I posted there.  It will not work and will mess up your Windows :caution:
:ar: Now open Notepad and paste the following text into your window:
CODE@echo off<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo.<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo Removing files from WFP<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo.<!--QuoteEBegin-->del /q %systemroot%\servicepackfiles\i386\uxtheme.dll<!--QuoteEBegin-->del /q %systemroot%\system32\dllcache\uxtheme.dll<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo.<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo Allowing WFP to do it's work<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo.<!--QuoteEBegin-->@chkdsk >nul<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo.<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo Placing patched UXTHEME into WFP cache<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo.<!--QuoteEBegin-->copy uxtheme.dll %systemroot%\system32\dllcache\uxtheme.dll<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo.<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo Patching UXTHEME in system32<!--QuoteEBegin-->echo.<!--QuoteEBegin-->ren %systemroot%\system32\uxtheme.dll %systemroot%\system32\uxtheme.dll.bak<!--QuoteEBegin-->@shutdown -r -c "Restarting! shutdown -a to abort!" -t 15
Now save this to the same folder as the UXTHEME patch, but you must use this filename (include the quote marks):  "uxtheme.cmd"
:ar: Now restart your computer, but boot into "Safe Mode".  To do this you need to press F8 key on your keyboard.  Tap the F8 key from the time the BIOS screen has passed until you see a menu.  On this menu, select the option which reads "Safe Mode with Networking".
:ar: Logon to Windows in Safe Mode and navigate to the UXTHEME folder.  You can do this by following step 1.  Execute the "uxtheme.cmd" file.  It has an icon like this: http://desyntwww.desy.de/~hkeller/MVP/putty/default-Dateien/b9.jpg
You should see a black, command prompt screen with various things appearing on-screen.  Once the patching procedure has finished the computer will automatically restart in 15 seconds.  Let the computer boot to Windows and then you have successfully patched UXTHEME and will be able to use modified Visual Styles.I hope that helps you with the UXTHEME patching procedure.  Please report any problems you may experience here, and I will attempt to fix them for you.

:caution: I assume no responsibility for any problems that occur with your computer.  I recommend that you make a backup of your computer prior to any modifications.

Point 2. After downloading where should i unrar it?

any point on that???

I've tried this and it doesn't work. I'm using WinXP professional with logons enabled, could it be a security problem? I was logged in as myself although I am an admin on the machine.

Do you have any ideas as to why it wouldn't work?

Quote :

It patches the UXTheme.dll for Windows XP/SP1/SP2 Beta/RTM and 2003 and allows you to use un-signed custom visual styles.

To simply patch the UXTheme.dll file, run the program, it will determine your operating system, then patch the appropriate file and reboot your PC.

To un-patch the UXTheme.dll file, run the program again, and it will un-patch the .dll and then reboot your PC.

It's just an .exe file  :great:

if you've already installed a BricoPack try to double click on a .msstyle file, such as the one you'll find in C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\*name of the pack*

I think you've already patched your dll 2 or 3 times :pen:

you can also use another .msstyle file, like the one you'll find in our download section. :jap: (Visual Styles)
