What is "QT Tab Bar" ? (click here)

Installation and use of QTTabBar under Windows XP

The installation of QTTabBar is very simple, but under Windows XP, you must install beforehand
 .Net Framework 2.0

Step 1 : Installation of .Net Framework 2.0First, download .Net Framework 2.0 via this wayOnce downloaded it, launch the application clicking on this icon : 1.jpg

Little advice : Avoid to uncompress the file on your desktop, but prefer to uncompress it in Program Files, where all your programs are installed. After, open the folder QTTabBar and launch the application via this icon :

To avoid restart your computer, simply go to the Start menu, select Close session :

Once your session closed, you just click your avatar to start a new ! :happy2:

Step 3 : Activation and use of  QTTabBarFirst, open your  Windows Explorer. On your menu bar, click the right button of your mouse and select QTTabBar (to show the tab bar) and QTTabb Standard Buttons (to show  the navigation bar)

As you can see, now we have many toolbars. We are going to disable those of Windows XP.To disable it, go to it and click the right button of your mouse.

.
For example, you want QTTabBar in French :
Save this file, in the folder of QTTabBar (placed in our repertory Program Files, if you followed my advices).
Then, place you on your QTTabBar Button and click on the right button of your mouse. Go on Options

Open the file previously downloaded

. Your toolbar is now in french.

Well, you have just to check the options that you want and browse quietly in the explorer without having a multitude of open windows on your desktop !You can add buttons on your toolbar, but also customize it :

Ok, the icons are not very beautiful, and attention, you cannot download them one by one !
You should download this :
quizo_btn_Default.png

or another, but having the same base !

So, do not hesitate to create your own skins for QTTabBar and share them with us. After all, are we not on a site of customization? It is perhaps also an opportunity to test
Axialis IconWorkshop which is also the only icons editor which permits creation and edition of Image Strips for toolbars.
For more information about creating skin for QTTabBar is here. Then, to apply the icons, click the right mouse button on the toolbar, and select Customize.
A Window opens :

Here are a few :In your toolbar, there is an area Search, which does not exist under Windows XP.

This function is very practice because when you need to search a file or an application in a repertory, you have just to write the name or only few letters of it, and hup QTTabBar removes the folder which do not these letters.

This is an example :
I go in my repertory Windows placed on C:, and I want to search my Media file.
Grrrr, :grrrrrr: there are so many files that I do not know where it is !
I write "me" in Search. Oh ! Great ! All files do not contain the word "me" disappear as by magic ! And me, I have found my file Media.

Come on, a second tip : When you want to rename a file, often it is the complete word that is highlighted and we are obliged to rewrite the extension :
33.jpg
Well, thanks to QTTabBar, only the file name is highlighted !

You will see, there are still others tips, but I leave you the pleasure to discover them !

It is here that ends this little tuto about QTTabBar, to you now to enrich it ! :wink2:

Hey Breakfast!

This looks interesting but you said you had problems?  Let me know what they are, I know I'll have double trouble if I try to apply it.

Explorer addons don't work for BFC.. Not QT TabBar, not anything else either.

I've had a few error messages pop-up with QT TabBar, but they only popup when I:
- Open Explorer for the first time (and when I open two explorer windows; e.g. my computer and a folder on the desktop)

If I open one Window only first (and wait it to load), you can open as many windows as you like without problems

A much preferred method to enable it without restarting is to go to the Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del), then go to the Processes tab. Type in "exp" and it should jump to "explorer.exe". End this process, and your task bar will go away. On the task manager, go to File > New Process. Type in "explorer". This will load up explorer.exe again.

QTTabs was available after I did that, tested on Windows XP SP2.
