Created by Stardock team, ‘Object Dock’ is one of the fabulous utilities for your Windows. You can get the latest version of it at http://www.stardock.com or if you have a bricopack Vista Inspirat, Longhorn Inspirit or Crystal XP shell pack you already have it.
If you don’t see it in your desktop screen, you just have to navigate to something like start>all programs>Bricopacks>Vista inspirat >Object Dock>Enable Object Dock.
‘Object dock’ is not just a good enhanced replacement for your Windows XP built-in task bar, it also give much ability to add your desires to it. Listed below are few of them.
By default, Object dock comes with 10 docklets (My Computer, Dock Settings, My Documents, Help, My Pictures, My Music, Media Player, e-mail, internet explorer & Recycle bin)
*Add a New…
You can add any new docklet resembling a path to your favorite application or software .exe. All you have to do is this,
Right-click on an empty area of the dock and navigate Add>New Shortcut. A new docklet will appear on the skin in no time. Then all you have to is to right-click the docklet & go to “Dock Entry Properties” and there you can decide the name (title) for the new docklet & then you have to browse for the execution (.exe) file of the application you want to link to the docklet.
*And also on the right of the dock entry window you can change the representative icon for your docklet just select ‘Change image’ and select any icon or .png file from the explorer menu folders or browse for your own made .png. And also you can also change the images and titles for above default docklets in the same manner. The specialty in here is that the ‘Object dock’ uses both .ico & .png files for docklet images
*Had Enough…?
If you are tired of having a docklet in the “Object dock”, well you can just remove it from the list. You can either select “Remove Entry” by right-clicking it or just dragging it out of the dock surface. Then the unnecessary docklet is gone.
*Built in enhancements…
Also Object Dock has some built-in enhanced docklets. You can find them by navigating to Dock settings>Docklets there you’ll see a Simple Animation Docklet, Clock, Weather Docklet & a Web search Docklet you can select the appropriate one and then click “add” to apply it in to the dock.
*Object Dock Properties…
In dock settings, there are several categories for you,
Appearance>>>
In here, you can select the size of the Object dock and also its magnified size. And below, you can select position for it to appear in the screen and also to “auto hide” along with a background selection drop down list of course with the transparency bar.
Appearance Tweaks>>>
Here, there are options for you to change Attention & Mouse-over effects, running indicators & the font face & size of the titles.
Docklets>>> (Mentioned under Built-in Enhancements)
Dock Contents>>>
You can change The Dock’s Task bar Options & Running Applications’ Indicator options.
##And also here you can hide your Windows’ Task bar by checking “Hide the windows task bar” on.
Performance Tweaks>>>
Under this you can customize the performances of the Object dock like Magnification & Auto hide.
When you go to Dock Properties, you’ll see a check box which below all the other saying “Load Object Dock on Startup” this will allow you to decide whether the dock should start with Windows or not.
