> Installing Visual-styles [TUTORIAL]

1. Download a visual style to your desktop (SuperVista Visual Style is just an example).

2. The visual-styles are usually zipped, so unzip the pack. To do this, right click on the file and select Extract here.
After the extraction process, you should have a new file on your desktop.

3. Now, open the new folder created on your desktop. You should have something like this:

In the folder, you should have a folder called Shell and a Windows Theme File.
If you have the Shell folder and the theme file you are fine.
 
4. Then open My Computer, and write the following address in the address bar:
%systemroot%/Resources/Themes
sysroot.png
 
 
5. Go back to your desktop and copy the folder which contains the Shell folder and the theme file:
unzip.png
 
 
Then, paste it into the Themes-folder (Make sure you have administrator rights, or you can't copy).

6. Then, go to your desktop and right-click on a blank space. Then select Properties. A window similar to this should come:

Select the Appearance tab, and you should have a window like this:

In the list of styles, select the style you have just copied and enjoy your new theme. Remember to press OK.

Visual-styles can be found from websites such as: Deviantart.com
 
In order to use these Visual-styles, you need to patch a file called UxTheme.dll.
To patch the UxTheme, download and run the Patcher (for Windows XP) from:  
Here for Windows XP SP2.
Here for Windows XP SP3.
 
  If you have a Bricopack installed, you do not need to download and patch your UxTheme.dll as the Bricopack installation alrealy patches the UxTheme.
 
  If you have recently installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3), your visual styles may not appear even if you have patched the UxTheme.dll. If this problem occurs, repatch the UxTheme.dll with the SP3 patcher mentioned above.

I am guessing that this is the proper place to write a reply. The first entry in form help should be an explanation of where to type...above or below all the text thats already there. Should the text be deleted first to clear the box??  
 
     
 

I have downloaded the uxtheme.dll file, where do I place it?

but it won't let me

have followed your above instructions as mentioned and cant get the shell on the side on my desktop any help would be great am runnig xp sp3 and have patched the uxtheme

What visual-style are you using? Vista Inspirat?

No i want it like vista cg. i have all the other stuff except the rss shell down the side its not working
