| quazzer Profil: New Penguin | Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I have created a bit of a problem for myself. I downloaded a pack to make my xp comp look like vista using this application (Click the link to see exactley what was downloaded). Basically, it changed my icons, theme, logon screen , startup screen, menus etc. I want to revert back to the original since there are many things in my view which make the whole feel of my computer a bit tacky now. How can I restore all my orginal settings? When I installed the pack, it all seemed a bit extreme. I'm a bit of a novice at this, any help will be much appreciated. Thanks | |
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Hi quazzer, welcome to CrystalXP These are only skins, the sidebar/transbar should be an autostart. Click START, click RUN, type "MSCONFIG" and check the autostarts/systemstarts, disable sidebar/transbar If you want to use another Visual Style, VS are here, here or here. Read this tutorial to change your VS
quazzer Profil: New Penguin | thanks for the reply. I haven't got the sidebar, so that's not really an issue, and don't really wnat to use another visual style. I tried doing a system restore, although that didn't happen since none of my restore points work, so they must have been infected. Typical. I've just recently installed sp3 and when that happened it got rid of my themes etc, and reverted back to normal. So could I be right in thinking that i could uninstall the sp3 update and then re-install?? would this work?
poiru Profil: Moderator | Do you want the original XP apperance or the Vista apperance back? I didn't quite get it from your posts

If I understand you well, you have installed sp3 and it revert back the theme to the original and now you want to go back to the theme you use before ? After you have installed sp3, did you re-patch the uxtheme.dll with the one made for sp3 ? http://www.sizzledcore.com/2008/05/20/down...windows-xp-sp3/
quazzer Profil: New Penguin | I'll apologise now, as I don't think I made sense with what I wrote, lol. This is my story. I installed sp3 and when I did, it reverted all my themes back to original (like the one you've shown - windows classic). I wanted to make my pc look like vista again, so i downloaded the pack from the given website in my first post. When I Unziped the file to my desktop, it came with various files and one was .exe file which I installed. When Installing, my computer kept dispalying an error window, asking for the original xp disc. So anyway I inserted the xp disc and then finally my computer rebooted. Once it had done this, I noticed the boot up screen was different and also the logon screen (which I didnt like the look of at all) and when I logeed in, I noticed other changes which I didnt like. So all I want to do now is get my computer back to its original state e.g with the normal boot up, logon screen. I've got the sofware named 'Logon Studio' and 'Boot Skin', and have managed to change the boot screen back to normal now, although cannot with the logon. When I click on 'Restore default xp logon' within the program it just restores it to the vista logon screen which I don't really like, and want the original back. But I think the orginal must have been replaced with this, or written over. Hope that explained things better
poiru Profil: Moderator | Doesn't the Vista Pack you used have an uninstaller? If not, you could try to do one of the following: - Do a XP repair install (should fix your problems (both logon and bootscreen)) For the logon, you can also try to do it manually: - Uninstall LogonStudio and other similar apps - Get hand of another Windows XP SP3 computer with the same language as your and copy the logonui.exe which is found in the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. If you get that logonui.exe from a friend/workplace/etc. tell me and I'll post further instructions..
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | After you do areapir install of XP, you should update windows, it`s SP1 after the install from CD (depends on how old your XP-CD is). Repair install needs no format c:, it simply overwrite your systemfiles and all programs should still work
codenamem2k Profil: Big Penguin | Or try System Restore
quazzer Profil: New Penguin | Hi all, and thanks for all your helpful answers. Ive tried system restore, all the dates saved won't work. I get an error message every time, so I think they must be corrupt. So that's out of the question. I did try the repair, but the instructions given didn't match what was coming up on my screen. I think It asked where I wanted to install the OS and gave me a list of drives such as drive c: and D: (my two hard drives) and another which I don't know. I took a photo to show you what i mean... I don't know which One to pick. My operating system is already installed on the C: drive. any thoughts?

Choose C: - follow the instruction of the microsoft-repair-install-link and the setup will overwrite your systemfiles. Do an windows update after reboot ...
