| Corcorino Profil: Penguin | Hello guys, my friend needs some help with overclocking. He has a S3 ProSavageDDR video card and he really wants to find a overclocking utility/program for this. He really needs some help so please, don't ignore this thread. Any help will be appreciated, thanks! | |
x3lumin8x Profil: Penguin | Sorry to tell you this, but those cards don't overclock worth a crap. He'll be better off getting a new card, Nvidia or ATI.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Oh, and keep in mind that overclocking normally voids the warranty.
Corcorino Profil: Penguin | So there isn't any possibility? Also, I tried his computer, the card isn't crap, it works well.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | You won't really know how "well" a card works unless you play some hardcore FPS games.
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Sorry, I have no idea Try google, there are lots of overclocking-forums/tutorials And be carefull, a well working graphic-card is better then a broken graphic-card

Those cards are on the low-end side of the market so I don't think you can really overclock those cards that well. Those cards suck, anyway. I suggest gets a nVidia or ATi card. The old 7xxx series of nVidia should be quite cheap now..
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Now calm down, folks! Nowhere has he stated he actually uses his card for anything more than watching movies on YouTube. Until we know WHY he wants a better card, we really can't tell him to get a GeForce or Radeon...
Corcorino Profil: Penguin | Actually, he plays CS:CZ lol. It works very good and he plays at 1024x768.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | No offence, but that's too old to be considered an actual game.
Corcorino Profil: Penguin | But it has good graphics Anyway, what nVIDIA card do you recommend him, what type, what's the best one?
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | It all depends on his budget. For US$ 75 or so, he can get an extremely powerful GeForce 8 series. More than enough to play all games released till last year at their best graphics. Of course, if he's willing to spend more, I'd recommend something in the GeForce 9 series... which can go as high as US$250. They're expensive, yes - but the only cards powerful enough to handle the newer games coming out this year.

Well if the only game he is going to play is CS, then the nVidia 8xxx cards would be a good deal. Here are some good choises that should be more than enough to play CS and which should overclock pretty well, too: (note, price in ¤)

Corcorino Profil: Penguin | We live in Romania, but we'll see the prices. Thanks! Anyway, is there a Windows Visual theme that doesn't eat too much RAMs except Windows Classic theme? My friend has some problems ^^ So please, can you recommend me one?
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Yeah, the Vista Inspirat 2 BricoPack without the add-ons (RocketDock, Transparency, etc.) doesn't take much extra space. It just replaces the Windows theme files... so no extra RAM usage.
Corcorino Profil: Penguin | Yes, thanks, but I mean one that eat less RAM even than Microsoft Classic Theme.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | I don't think so. If your computer can't even handle that basic amount of memory correctly, you'd better get some more RAM installed. XP is not meant to run below 256MB RAM ... and 512MB is recommended. And when I'm using Photoshop, my memory usage can jump to as high as 3GB. Another way to improve your computer's memory allocation would be to increase Virtual Memory / Page File.
Corcorino Profil: Penguin | I have 2500 MB of ram so... Anyway, what's the recommended paging file?
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Depends on your usage. For Photoshop, the more the better. For normal XP, about 512MB to 1GB is recommended. But why are you so concerned with how much RAM a theme takes if you already have so much?

Nothing uses less RAM than windows classic It's as simple as they come
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Not really... the Windows 1.0 original theme probably used even less RAM. Thank God Adobe invented Photoshop!
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | Ah, touche I dunno... doesn't look so bad

I'm reporting that post to an admin. You can be banned for saying that on CrystalXP.
