64 Processes?

Yet again more problems with my PC.
I have normally at least 50 processes running and all though they don't use much CPU, if I try to run a big application like Flash or Guitar Pro, it won't run properly because of all these processes sucking up the RAM and CPU. This is annoying because I literally rely on programs like this.
Is this anything to do with the Bricopack and also which of the processes do what and can I stop some of them?
Heres some pictures of the task manager with all the processes.
Sorry it's a bit mucked up, I can't use paint very well.

Well a simple way to free up RAM is dispense with the pretty.

RocketDock.exe - 10,000K

WinFlip.exe - 8,000K

But I don't get how these are taking up the CPU, you System Idle Process is at 90 so you've got a heck of a lot spare. Do they jump up when you run programs or something?

From the screenshots you have there it's really difficult to work out what any of those processes are without knowing them or googling them all, so I don't know which ones it is safe to dispense with.

Anything that you know what it is, and you can live without, kill it. If you have an app open that you aren't using just then and won't be for a while, close it. (Like I always close photoshop when I've done what I opened it for, even though I'll probably open it again)

If you have a lot of extras, like rocketdock and other things that are superficial, if you need the RAM and cpu, just kill them.

(I've got 77 processes on mine, though it's vista, hence it needs lots of processes to churn RAM and burn the motherboard to slow the machine to maximise user stress.)

EDIT: Does the xp process window have a description bit? If you extend it across you should see it if it's there, I don't know since I never did much with my xp computer but wait and go on msn

Just thinking the descriptions will help work out which ones are kill-able.

No XP doesn't have the descriptions on Task Manager.

By the way, try closing unneeded services and startup items (like Java Update, NVdia special effects crap and all that)..

I've managed to cut down on the processes a bit, however I'm still not sure what I can do with most of them. I went msconfig and found a HUGE list of startup stuff that I didn't need. I suppose I'll do a bit of googleing.
Can I get rid of this ctfmon.exe thing, because Microsoft say I need it, but they don't want you to do anything when you look through all the help files.
Edit:
I've googled nearly all of them, none seem dodgy or abnormal.
That's annoying because I can't get rid of any of them because of this.

You can remove the ctfmon.exe

Holy cow?!?

I never use more then 20 processes  :xeyes:

Are you sure your system is clean (trojans, virus, adware)? Many of your running task I never saw before.

Download Xp-Antispy, turn of some services.

Click START, click RUN, type msconfig and disable some autostarts you don`t need.

Download "Spybot Search & Destroy", update it online, scan your system

Actually, there's a very simple solution to this.

Buy more RAM. You can get a 2GB upgrade for as low as 40 US dollars; and believe me, it'll boost your computers performance substantially -- especially if you're into games or graphics. :oui:

I've not scanned for a while because AVG takes ages, I'll look into spybot, last time on my old PC I thought it was clean and it found loads of crud so I'll do that. I think it's because my Intel Graphics card uses 3 processes, my audio thing uses 4, AVG uses 7 sometimes and lots of drivers I have use processes.

I`m pretty sure you can turn off 20 processes, many autostarts are useless  :fouet:

Feel free to post a screenshot/list from your autostarts.

Try Malwarebytes Startup Lite (google it) It should help you quite a bit.

If you have Adobe CS3 installed, then it have a lot of background processes.... And, you can stop other background tasks like Winamp Agent, Winzip, RocketDock... etc....

That should make things faster.... :happy2:

I'll do a bigger research on this, and explain later...

You can disable atleast:
- jushed.exe (Java Update)
- igfx****.exe (Intel Graphics stuff)
- ePower, ePresentation, etc. (Acer crap)

I agree

Here are a list of services (XP) you can turn off

(turn only 1-2 off at the same time, reboot, when everything works fine disable more next time)

Thanks it's now normally around the lower fifties in processes.
I haven't found any viruses, rootkits, etc with AVG or Spyware with Spybot.
On of my friends had a look and it and said a recent Windows Update can cause a "memory lapse" with a svchost.exe process which will cause problems with it sucking up all the cpu, but I don't think I have this problem, since it never uses more than 20000kb of RAM and 5% cpu.
Just a random question from looking at stoof. If I disable the Net meeting service, will msn still work? I think the services it uses may be related the Wiki article on Net Meeting hints at it.
Edit: Also, can I remove all of the Acer eWhatever from my pc, I never use it, or will my pc depend on it, stuff like the the ePower Management.
Edit #2: Can I uninstall WinFlip safely on XP with Vista Inspirat and get the normal Alt + Tab back, or will I get a mucked up one.

Yes, you can kill all those Acer crap
And yes, uninstalling WinFlip will restore the default key bindings.
