| XXPhantomPhreakXX Profil: Penguin | I found these really neat gadgets for weather to system resources, But last time I used them shortly after my internet explorer started openin' web pages on its own , Now im not sure if these apps was the cause of this or not, I have done on-line scan an I checked with Spy Terminator also, The only thing comes back on them an not all is a trojan downloader, I know sometimes virus scans can come back false when in reality there is nuttin wrong, I have since wiped my hardrive an started over, but would like to use these apps again but fear from havin' something like before happen if they do have malware or something embedded in them, are there any of you out there that has used these before an had any problem with them???? Any feedback is welcomed.... XXPhantomPhreakXX | |
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | Well if you cvould specify the one that you downloaded that you think may have had the malware on it, it would help. I strongly doubt that they have malware on them, certainly not all of them. I have had a Trojan ownloader many times in the past few weeks, I'm not sure how, though I am scouring my history for any hints. I suspect they are fine, I shall certainly download some and see wether anything happens, but if you could specify the one you used that would help EDIT: Wow that was scarily quick! I downloaded the Hyalo Weather widget from here: (DO NOT DOWNLOAD) http://www.widgipedia.com/widgets/details/...weather_27.html And I instantly got warnings of: "Virus or unwanted program 'TR/Drop.Agent.tor [trojan]' detected in file 'C:\Users\Chris\Desktop\Hyalo-2xWeather gadget by adni18.exe. Action performed: Move file to quarantine" I'll be testing their other gadgets and widgets, see wether this is an odd file they have somewhere had malware attached to without knowing, or wether they're doing this deliberately. EDIT: Well the other widgets don't work on my computer, though that may be a compatibility thing with vista, though I'm not trying to get them to work, but they don't appear to contain any malware or trojans. Looks like the weather widget was an isolated incident, but certainly don't download this particular one. Out of interest what antivirus do you have? I'm using Avira AntiVir and it immediately picked up on the trojan straight after the download, and was able to stop it. If you just noticed the effects then I suggest you either aquire some antivirus software, or get a better one than the one you currently have. Avira AntiVir, AVG 8, and Avast! all have free antivirus software which should pick up on trojans like these instantly
poiru Profil: Moderator | You should try to scan your system with MalwareBytes Anti Malware (free) and BitDefender (free). I use them as a backup scanner to make sure avast! hasn't missed anything If you suspect the widget is infected, upload it to Virustotal.com

I used virustotal and that how I came across the trojan downloader, but only clamvirus picked it up out of all of them, so im wonderin' if its a false reading....
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | It may well be, I know clamvirus does show incorrect readings from online checkers, certainly ones I have used in the past... Personally I would avoid regardless, there are bound to be others, and as they say, better safe than sorry! And I would advise against Avast!, and would suggest Avira or AVG. I used to have Avast! but it missed so many viruses and trojans I installed Avira instead.

poiru Profil: Moderator | I wouldn't trust ClamWin. It is a pretty weak AV, and if all other AV's don't even suspect its malware, then I guess you're safe
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | Yea, I downloaded from there as well, and that still came up as a trojan downloader. You might notice the comment from "GhostTyphon"

I went to check out MalwareBytes Anti Malware (free) but it said on the site it cost 24.95 for full real time protection, Is this software really worth the money????
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | I have the free version, and it's good enough. You don't really need the real time protection, your anti-virus should handle that fine MalwareBytes is just good to do a quick scan every now and again to make sure your computers clean. As Legace said, they are useful as a backup, just to make sure your AV hasn't missed anything.

Me 2, Im goin to go ahead an download a copy of MalwareBytes Anti Malware and start feelin' safer on-line....
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | I just keep getting bombarded with trojan warnings, and even if I ignore them (They stop for about 5 seconds and then start again) and try and run the app it just stops working... I thought it might be AntiVir blocking it while it asked me what to do, so I turned AV off and it still wouldn't work. Just kept "Stopped Working" whenever I double clicked it
poiru Profil: Moderator | Maybe its a problem with AntiVir because it uses heuristics and usually catches lots of false positives.. Turn off AntiVir, reboot, and try again (AntiVir services might still be on)..
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | I shall try that, though not now as I'm going out in a few minutes (To watch The Dark Night with some friends) so I'll check when I get back
m&m's | @ .Ghost. quote (Just kept "Stopped Working" whenever I double clicked it) Don't forget that the weather gadget need internet access to get the weather data, maybe your firewall block the access for the gadget ? Mine is working well ! m&m Weather_gadget2.jpg

m&m's | Thanks XXPhantomPhreakXX ! I also have a sidebar, I'm making it with "Rainmeter", I love to customize my desktop with that program ! I love the weather icons in the gadget made by adni18, maybe I should recreate it with "Rainmeter" I already making right now a special request for someone, who want to have weather alerts and radar map for his location in "Rainmeter" btw I made a full screenshot of my desktop here http://forum.crystalxp.net/index.php?s=&am...st&p=516689 Weather_request.jpg
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | @m&m Nope, no luck with firewalls and antivirus and every other thing I could think of turned off Still just stops working the instant I execute it. Ah well, I can't be bothered to go to any further means to find the solution, and there would be no point. I would never use it, firstly because I simply don't bother keeping track of the weather, it can come and go as it likes, and secondly even the smallest amount of objects on my desktop drives me mad because it makes it unsymetrical and unordered and it drives me insane and I end up deleting it. OCD.
