I was surfing the web when I came across this, I'm interested in it, though I'm a little shaky to try it. Should I try it?

How to Create a Bootable Windows XP Setup CD/DVD on a System with Windows Pre-loaded

EDIT: Also found this:

If you have internet access you can download the installer at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

Is there an i386 folder with the XP files in it on the pc? (search for it)
If so, you can do this
Tell your computer where the files are on your PC. This is done by editing the registry. Here's how:
Start
Run
"Regedit" <Enter>

Make a backup of the registry

Navigating to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionSetup

You will see various entries here on the right hand side.

The one you want is called: SourcePath
It probably has an entry pointing to your CD-ROM drive,(usually D:) and that is why it usually asks for the XP CD. You need to change it to: C:
Double click SourcePatch
Change to the drive letter of your root drive, probably C:

Now restart your computer, then
Start
Run
Type "SFC /Scannow"

I just read a bit, but from what I read, these steps are to create a Windows install CD - not a Windows Live CD..

Quite useless - unless you don't have a Windows install CD..

Will this install a fresh XP? Without overwriting my files and documents? Will it just overwrite the system files?

If you need to reinstall XP, I strongly suggest that you first backup your files and then do a complete reinstall of XP..

I am not sure, but I think that you can do a repair install of XP, too, with this..

Dude. Thats a thumbnail
The address should be: http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/3134/desktopwi0.png

Well I've never used the backup wizard so I don't really know.
I have two seperate NTFS partitions on my HD, so I just copy all the documents from C: to D: when I reinstall..

But I think you should select "everyones documents", as the third option backups the whole computer (or atleast I think it does so)..
If you reinstall, and use the restore disk, your would have the same system like you would've had if you hadn't reinstalled XP.

Anyway, I think the best option is to backup manually.. I guess you know that places you save your files into, so just copy those files and folders and paste them on a seperate partition or on a removable drive (or CD/DVD)..
