Hey all CrystalXP.net members.

So, Here is my BIG problem:

Hours ago, i wanted to install Ubuntu 7.10 on my computer in a Double Boot with Windows XP.
During the installation of Ubuntu 7.10, i got a message saying that it couldn't download any updates because my connection was corrupt. And after the installation internet didn't work on ubuntu 7.10 and i was obliged to reinstall Ubuntu with no connection problems. But Unfortunately, the Linux/Ubuntu 7.10 Live CD doesn't boot. because it needs a little installation on windows XP to make it boot after the next system reboot. So i needed to login to XP again, BUT,when i restarted my pc, i didn't get the choice to choose between XP and Linux so i put my Windows XP cd in order to FIX the Windows XP boot thing,so i got the command prompt thing, and went through all the steps * bootcfg /add , bootcfg /rebuild * but nothing seemed to work. After several tries, when i rebooted my pc, i got an error * Loading Grube , Please wait. -> Error 17 * then i restarted my pc in order to install a new fresh install of XP because i got no choices left, but this time, when i booted with the XP Cd-Rom , All i get after the message * install is configuring your setup information (something like that) * is a black screen. So i can't do anything with my computer.Nothing at all. And i just Built it on my own a month ago.

I have:
Processor: AMD x2 64 Athlon 5200+ 2.80Ghz
Motherboard: Asus M2N-E
550 Watts
3 GB Of RAM
HDD: SATA 80 GB and external 320 GB

I'd Appreciate your help ! And Please i need it.
Sincerely,
[C]radle.eXe

I suggest you to reinstall your computer from scratch.
Also, find some well tuto on the Internet how to install Ubuntu. Ubuntu is not hard to install at all.
It's quite easy.

How are you connected to the Internet?
By router or modem?

I had a problem with my cable router and I solved it. If you're also connected to Internet via router, tell me so I could give you some tips

Hey sosoe222, and thanks for replying.

What do you mean by * reinstall your computer from scratch. * ? And how do i do that ?
And for the router, i don't think it's a problem but it's just because my internet is connected with my TV Satellite and Telephone, and when i was installing Ubuntu, my parents were watching tv, so the internet was a bit ****ed up.And i do know how to install ubuntu ^^.
Thanks for your help again.

Try to boot from Ubuntu. If you manage to succesfully boot into Ubuntu, you should format the whole drive but not install Ubuntu.
After the format, install Windows and then install Ubuntu. When installing Ubuntu I hardly suggest you unplug the internet cable..

The ubuntu Live CD won't boot ! ;( i need to install webi-cdboot.exe in XP in order for the cd to boot. Otherwise it won't (right?). And why should i unplug my internet cable during the installation? the installation needs internet in order to install important updates.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

What I meant by reinstalling from scratch is to format your hard drive and install everything from the beginning.
And yes, you should unplug the cable during the installation. You can install those updates later.
Once you boot into Ubuntu, post here for further steps if your Internet connection doesn't work
It requires some messing with system files, but don't worry, I can point you

You should plug it into another PC as a slave [secondary drive] and then copy the files from the drive

I don't think your mb is broken if you still can see the POST [some random text in the beginning..]
I suggest you try Puppy Linux. You can burn the ISO and boot from it from another computer and then install it to your USB from the Live CD ISO.
