Hello,

I just installed Vista Inspirat 2, and it looks fine. But with one problem: The startup welcome screen and the shutdown screen looks like someone tried to erase part of the screen using Microsoft Paint. It sort of looks like a wave, and because they're startup and shutdown screens, I can't show the exact screenshots. But here's what it basically looks like.

It should look like the first image.

But it rather somewhat like this:

http://www.crystalxp.net/forum/uploads/sm/monthly_03_2008/post-238631-1204587364_thumb.jpg

I've tried reinstalling VI2, without success. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and is there a solution to this small, but VERY annoying problem?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried:
Desktop -> Right-click -> Properties -> Settings-tab -> Set the color amount to 32 bit.

Try installing LogonStudio from Stardock, its free, and it should work perfectly.

and also, download a vista  logon screen from wincustomize.com

Btw, I bet that changing the colors doesn't help because a lot of the colors in that screen would be ugly, not erased.

I tried this, but it didn't work, and now I can't shutdown the computer properly!

It should work, cuz, if it doesn't your PC isn't working properly.

You should try re-installing the Brickopack, or use logonstudio.

Logonstudio ALWAYS works, unless you've got an old version that doesnt work with the skin, or your PC is screwed :frown:

It IS screwed now. I get a RCINT failure message when I try to start/shutdown.

Forget about the logon screens, now I need help to shutdown and startup properly, without having to reinstall windows! I reinstalled windows last week because of a virus, so I really don't want to go through that again!

I haven't tried it yet, but it should, normally. I just have to hard boot it when shutting down.

Do you have an idea to solve this problem with Safe mode?

Uninstall the Bricopack in Safemode and install it in safemode

Quote :

Booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.

   * If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
    * Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    * Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    * Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
    * Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    * When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

And what do I do when I've already uninstalled Bricopacks? I did it in normal mode. My computer is really screwed now, isn't it?

Next time install and uninstall Bricopacks in Safemode, it`s more compatible and secure as normal mode ...

What is the problem now ? The logoff don`t work ? When you click "logoff" you only see the logoff-screen but it the PC don`t turn off ?

I would say try some tools to change the logon/logoffscreen ...

Did you do all windows-updates ?

When nothing else works do a repair-intall, you the XP-CD, this will overwrite all systemfiles without a format c:

Try a repair-install of XP

Quote :

1. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

This will only overwrite the XP-Systemfiles ...  After reboot, make a windows-update ...

ever thought of systemrecovery?

Just boot in secure mode, start system recovery, and put it before you installed the pack. Tadaa, problem solved, if you havent made a restore point before installing, you, obviously, were crazy when you installed it

It should work anyway, cuz windows makes those restore points automatically.

I already unistalled it this afternoon, in NORMAL mode. If I want to uninstall it in safe mode now, then I need to install it AGAIN and then uninstall it. I don't think there's much point to that. Or is there?

I have one more suggestion. (read carefully)
:ar: Download this
Unzip the file you downloaded.
There should be a logonui.exe file inside
Change the name of that file to logontest.exe
Then copy the logontest.exe to C -> WINDOWS -> system32

Now, click on the Start menu and select Run. Type in regedit and press enter. Now go into:
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT>Current Version>Winlogon

Under here change the 'UIHost' (double click it) value. Change it from logonui.exe to logontest.exe

If this works, your computer is NOT broken

Software (hardly) never brakes your computer hardware.
If you install XP again, it will work, but the my previous post should fix the issue too.

I experienced this problem before when I was using LogonstudioXp to change my welcome screen. Then I found out that it happened because I change the non-unicode language setting. After I reset it to english, the problem was solved.
