Check this out guys...
For some reason (after installing a 'welcome screen'
TuneUp Utilities 2006 puts the following entry into the registry:
(STRING NAME): UIHost
(STRING VALUE): C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TuneUp Software\TuneUp Utilities\WinStyler\tu_logonui.exe
(essentially what happens is the welcome screen/fonts is embedded in the EXE file (ie - standard MS file is longonui.exe), but for some reason my computer and probably others- wont recognize this path for logon screens.. who knows why it does this..??
The problem for those is that the registry entry is WRONG! This is what fixes it:
#1 - after you chose your welcome screen, just copy the generated "tu_logonui.exe" (in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TuneUp Software\TuneUp Utilities\WinStyler\tu_logonui.exe) to the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 folder
#2 - go to regedit - [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
#3 - DELETE THE STRING NAME/VALUE "UIHost"
#4 - Make an EXPANDED STRING VALUE in the registry location:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] -
Type: REG_EXPAND_SZ
Name: UIHost
Value: tu_logonui.exe
How STUPID THESE PEOPLE ARE TO MESS THIS UP ON AN "OFFICIAL" RELEASE PROGRAM! THEY NEED TO INCLUDE THIS FIX FOR THEIR UPDATES!! COME ON GUYS!!
Of youre too lazy to do above, just copy and past below into a file (save it as TUwelcomescreenfix.reg or whatever.reg), double click it, import it and wala..
BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT (STEPS 1 & 4) EVERYTIME YOU WANT TO CHANGE SCREENS! That sux...
