Hello;
I´ve been using CrystalXP for about a year now on my Notebook without problems.
Now i got me a new PC with an Athlon 64 x2 processor, installed Windows XP x64 Edition and wanted to customize it with Crystal Clear.
So i downloaded the brico pack and installed it and the rocket dock shows up, but otherwise nothing changes. I´m told to reboot, so i do it. When the computer booted, there still was the standard XP login screen, but a new mouse cursor. So i was puzzled, but logged in anyway. But after abot 30 seconds after entering my password, it still says it´s loading my preferences. After a while the screen changes to the Crystal Clear background, but there aren´t any interfaces. No task bar, no icons, nothing, just the wallpaper and the mouse cursor.
I could still open the task manager and start programs from there, so after a bit of probing around i decided to uninstall the brico pack. After i rebooted, Windows had the grey classic style and warning messages kept popping up telling me about how files were missing or could not be loaded. My Windows installation was screwed up. I reinstalled Windows and tried to install Crystal clear again, with the same result.

I´m about to install Windows a third time now, can anybody tell me what i did wrong or what i´l have to consider when using Crystal XP? Or maybe it was just a bad download (probably not, since the installation didn´t report any errors)?

I really wand that Crystal clear style, but i´m afraid to bugger up Windows a third time.

Hi fishbong

Quote :

About Bricopacks :
- First, make sure that the pack is compatible with your system (to check you system information, right click on "my computer", then, click on "proprieties";).
Here is the list of compatible systems :
- Windows XP
- Windows XP SP1
- Windows XP SP2
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows XP Media Center (SP1, SP2 or without SP)
- Windows XP Tablet Edition
Be careful, this pack isn`t compatible with 64 bit versions (x64) of Windows XP

- You must uninstall other software like Bricopack, ShellPack or CustoPack before the installation of a new Bricopack.
- We dont guarantee the compatibility of our Bricopack with modified (Gold, Light, LSD;) versions of Windows
- You must have administrator rights in Windows XP to install this pack safely.
- If for X reasons your machine not work with the first boot following the installation of the pack, you can restore your system: Put your CD of XP in the reader and launch the restore console. Type "R" at the invites setup. You have the console with prompt "the c:\WINDOWS >", type: "BATCH BricoPackUninst.txt". Type EXIT when the operation finished.

Please read this, you can change your icons in X64 too, but not with a bricopack, there are lot of other tools (like Iconpackager and more)

Thank you for the fast answer.

I´m sorry for not having found this info myself, but i gotta say it´s rather hard to find, being at the bottom of the brico pack site.

Well anyway, its a real shame BricoPacks aren´t compatible with x64 Windows. Is that going to change anytime soon? Is Rocket Dock at fault here, seeing as its not compatible with x64 Windows as well?

Thank you.

Yeah i know, i´ve been using WindowsBlinds and StyleXP, but i found Crystal XP to be vastly superior. Also i LOVE Rocket dock, sucks that i can´t install it on my new comp,  or at least not under XP x64 Edition.

well....i have the same problem here :frown:
unfortunately, I didnt read that fucking note that x64 versions arent compatible (usually on setups it doesnt continue because of a pop up with the msg that the software is not 64bit compatible).
i just had the exactly same problem, after install, reboot, had nothing but cursor and taskmanager, but if i open
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\explorer.exe then everything starts up and begins working, even if i deinstall that bricor packet Oo (some error msg of the yshadow and ubericon thing pops up, but i can just click them away).
the only remain problem is that i just see my x64-symbols in the control panel (x64 systems have a group of special tasks in the control panel) and the "standard" symbols:
http://www.digitalsecurus.com/wifi/xpcontrolpanel.JPG
are gone :frown:
what exactly did the setup do? i guess it modified the original control.exe and explorer.exe and replaced it with your modified vista explorer.exe and control.exe, where can i find them?
maybe thats the only problem for a working x64 vista inspirator^^

edit: guess i was wrong :frown:, the explorer.exe keeps shuting down itself from time to time Oo

Try to do a system restore to a point before the installation of the Bricopack.
