Hi! I have successfully installed KKmenu and removed the taskbar. Great tutorial, thanks! I really dont miss taskbar and the ugly microsoft logo  but i do miss one thing - and thats language bar since i'm frequently change between japanese and english and croatian. so I was wondering does anybody know the way to see which language is active within rocketdock or on desktop?? i can change between languages with ctrl+shift but still i'd need language bar

appreciate any suggestions!

thanks!

one question tho, on the system tray part of the dock it only shows a portion of my icons.
any way to increase the number of icons here?

Hi,

thanks for this great tut. helped me a lot.  :great:

but on thing I´m missing on the rocketdock is the ability to show the running application which are not listet as a symbol on the dock.

they are listet once they are minimized, but not if open. so when i´m running 6 applications in maximized mode I have to use alt-tab to switch between them and can´t klick somewhere on the dock like on the taskbar from windows.

any ideas on how to add this to the dock?

otherwise its not a full replacement of the taskbar.

thanks

best regards

Cool guide

Just to make sure, I think you have to have write access to your RocketDOck folder (in vista) to be able to use kkmenu, otherwise you get the .dll and the .ini errors.
On another note, how do you hide the taskbar in vista? I tried the little .exe that was linked to, but that either hides the taskbar and leaves the start button there, or hides the whole thing to just later on reappear. It would be cool if RocketDock had the 'Hide Taskbar' feature like most other docks do. Is there a registry hack or another working way for vista to do this?

Cheers  :great:

You can choose to Auto-Hide the task bar in Vista. Then if you move your mouse to the bottom of the screen, it will appear again. Have you been able to find this option yet? I haven't been able to find any other information or programs which could help you with this. Welcome to CrystalXP!

Thanks =]
Yeh, autohide is OK but I want it COMPLETELY gone. I made a script that makes it go away but it appears back in the same way it does with the .exe that was linked to, it's quite annoying! i still can't find a way to get rid of the actual start button either, the best way i found was to autohide the taskbar and then run my script to get rid of it but really that just hides the start button off screen and it comes back along with the taskbar a little while later  :frown: RK Launcher and other docks hide it completely somehow, wish I knew how!

EDIT: Oops, looking at RK Launcher it does the same kinda thing, the taskbar dissappears but the start button remains

This is a simple step by step tutorial for those who are wondering how to transform your desktop to a mac look while making the menu and the system tray part of rocketdock.  I finally did it and ofcourse with the help of many crystalizers including  GRUZZ.
HERE IT IS :
Step 1: installing rocket dock 1.13 ( or 1.3  not sure of the actual version, but the latest one)

Step 2: Download and install KKMENU from this site  ROCKET DOCK DOCKLETS   Make sure you download the KKMENU at the bottom first then download the first one if you wish, i did, it is just a mod.

Step3: Installing the KKMenu is not hard, make sure you specify the path to rocketdock location in windows> bricopacks > rocketdock.  Just make sure the installation location is the dock's directory.
          - you will also be asked to select one of three choices !!! 1) no tray 2) registration 3) pre shell ( i am not soo clear on the proper names but you'll get the idea when you see it)  I selected number 2 which enables the SYSTEM TRAY which is in the later step. Step 3 is not Recommended for beginners and if it messes up your pc it will be tricky to resolve. Stick with the second for an easy life !

Step4: you will be asked to restart, do so. After restarting, you just right click the rocket dock > add item >  KK MENU. this i will not do much but just add the icon space for you. just right click the blank space and a menu should pop up.

Step 5: in the menu that, you can start by clicking set image. and just pick an icon as you wish.  Then you need to specify the menu so click the " show menu editor" and then   "Add Menu"
-After clicking add menu ,  drop the window under MENU KIND and select  DYNAMIC FOLDER.
    - name the menu whatever you like !
    - Under folder, click the " . . . " browse  button, and go to where the start menu folder is located. Most likely it will be under C : documents and setting / all users / start menu.  MAKE SURE YOU SELECT ALL USERS even if you are the only user, it just assures that all the shortcuts in the start menu are there.
    - thats it ur done ! adding the menu.

Step 6: is an optional step , but i recommend you do it, because i think the skin that comes with it is ugly. Anyways you need to download the following skin " Vista Glass skin"  from here    it is in the first post, at the end has a direct link.
  - after downloading it open the zip and extract to your desktop. Take the VISTAGLASS.ini and the VistaGlass.png  in the KKmenu skins directory which is located in the docklets folder of your dock
ie: C:\WINDOWS\BricoPacks\Crystal Clear\RocketDock\Docklets\KkMenu\SKINS

 - a small thing you need to do is edit the  vistaglass.ini file to make it work. so open the .ini file in a notepad and erase everything and copy paste  the following:
- save and close. Now if you go to your dock and right click the menu docklet and click " General KKmenu Setup" and choose the vista glass skin from the drop down. it should work nicely.

Step7: Adding a system tray docklet is very simple actually. right click somewhere on the dock and again go to  ADD item > KK menu , just as you  did the first time. Then RIGHT click the empty spot and rather than adding an image this time DONT!  Just click Setup tray and in the window that just popd up check the first box ENABLE ! and thats it ! now i increase the first number under enable to 50 so all my tray icons can fit. but whatever you want you DONT need to change it ! and i suggest you dont !!
- That's it just close and close !! you should have a tray.

Step8: After setting up your menu you might have noticed that it is small !  and NOT LOONG enough to fit atleast a good dozen of folders, so to increase the size  just simply right click the menu icon again and go toothe KK menu setup , and change the MAX height to 80 ( that's what i have and it works fine ! ) play around with that and see what height suits you !

Step 9: well your pretty much done ! the hard stuff  Now all you have to do is remove the taskbar ! !! thanks to gruzz, just download this 20 kb .exe file that enables you to easily hide or unhide the taskbar without manually editing the registry.
  - REMOVE TASKBAR LINK      Download it !

- now that you have it just extract it somewhere you dont mind keeping it in. run it and click HIDE ! and make sure you check the box ! and then close it !   To unhide the taskbar  just re open the file and click unhide ! make sure the box is unchecked !
Step 10: - make sure you enabled the minimize to dock feature !! so you can see windows when they are minimized !
Finally have fun and place your dock anywhere ! you want ! and add whatever docklets you think you need from this site :  link
or win customize under the category object dock!

That's it you are finally done ! PLease if you have any question / comments of concerns  feel free to post here !!

IF anyone knows how to add the POWER and LOG ON/OFF button to the rocketdock post it too !!

Thanks hope it helps people !!

To add log off/shutdow buttons you make a shortcut to shutdown.exe and add certain switches.

shutdown.exe
-t How much time to wait. Default is 15 or 30 seconds
-r Restart
-s Shutdown
-l Logoff
-f Force
-c Leave comment(not required. Leave blank if time is 0)
-a Abort if the timers still going

Examples:
Shutdown [shutdown.exe -s -t 0]
Restart [shutdown.exe -r -t 0]
Logoff [logoff.exe] OR [shutdown -l -t 0]
You can add the -f switch to the end of them you you don't get the "Program not responding" End Now button.

T get rid of the taskbar, right click and unlock. Then drag it down so you can't see. Then turn on autohide. It should completely disappear.

Hi, I'm rather new here. *waves at everyone*  I just have a quick question.  I have KKMenu installed and all seem to work great.  I really like' what I have seen so far.

I have a duel monitor setup that has RocketDock set to rum from the 2nd monitor.
When I click on  the item I have setup, the output opens on monitor 1.

Image Example: http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff109/C...KMenu-Image.gif

my question is this.  Is there a way I can get the output on monitor 2?  I'm sure its probably a setting I have overlooked or a change in the .ini....

Any suggestions would be great.

PS. I noticed while I was getting the screen caps and playing around that the 'grid' setting for stack dock also outputs to monitor 1. hmmmm

and thanks for the tip on the missing text.  changing the font setting fixed it right up.  Man I am *SO* glad I found this place

Very nice! I followed most of it. I had Rocket Dock, I got the kkmenu, set it up, restarted, left default skin (worked fine!;), and then just played around with my folder and icon, then I got the skins provided by the creator and chose Vista Dark (I love dark things, what can I say?) And voila, everything is fine. Didn't care much for Tray Icons though, they seem to get in the way of me clicking to open menu. But the Hide taskbar works intermittently, it will work one minute, I'll minimize something and the taskbar will be back, but I open a window, minimize it, it's still gone, it just happens randomly.

Sort of, I want it to appear in my taskbar, like an extra quick-launch.
But if I use that after then the problem will be solved.

This is the exact same trouble I'm having.
In Mac OS, the dock will show icons for applications even if they don't already exist as shortcuts on the dock. They appear when the app opens and disappear when the app closes.
On RocketDock, the only applications it displays are those that are added as launch shortcuts to the dock.
Is there any way to make RocketDock display running applications that aren't shortcuts? THIS would effectively replace the taskbar.

for those who actually want to get rid of the taskbar, there's an alternative that i've been using for a while. if you have transbar, whether in a bricopack or standalone, just set the transparency to full so that it's invisible. exact same effect. on the off chance that you need your task bar again, just adjust the transparency.

i find that the only time i really use the taskbar is when i receive a new message on msn. when a person first sends a message, it will open a messenger window. however, it appears in the taskbar, not in the rocketdock. anyone know how i can get the msn window to appear in rocketdock?

You can set Rocket Dock to mnimise windows to RocketDock, then anything you minimize will be on the dock, not on the taskbar.

It isn't an actual solution, but it's a good temporary work around, for msn.

A good way to reach the systray applications and those in progress is to install stacks in Rocketdock.
Download traystack and taskstack from http://www.chrisnsoft.com/

i've done that months ago. that only works when the window is already there. i'm talking about when a message is sent to you and it creates a new window. that doesn't show up in rocketdock. it only shows up in the taskbar. i will give that stacks thing a try and see what happens.

ok, so i've gotten task stack and it is acting strangely. when i double click the exe frome its folder, it works like it should. i can see and select what is in the task bar. however, when i add it to rocketdock, i cannot select what is in the taskbar. to be more precise, when i click on its rocketdock icon, it will show what is in the taskbar, just like before, but when i click on an item, it does not appear on screen. one time it crashed my pc. any ideas? or anything similar to task stack that works in rocket dock?

Hi,

Thanks for your instruction. However, I've got a problem. I put the start menu on the dock, but I can't make the icon appear there. I've tried to change it several times to no avail.

Would you know what could be wrong?

Thanks.
