hello,

Trying to install the Pack Crystal Clear 1.0.exe on my machine (XP pro sp2) and it keeps hanging on install at random points

pack-it.exe uses 100% cpu and it goes no further . to clear it i have to reboot.

also when the wizard is extracting the files i get a error ' cannot export c:\windows\brickopacks\crystal clear\uninstfiles\skin3.reg - error writing the file. may be a disk or file system error'

can anyone help

I advise you to download the Crystal Clear Pack again, try to extract it, then try to install it. If you failed/succeeded, please let us know.

Sorry, should have said i downloaded again... i did and both extract from the ZIP ok but still get the errors on install

I will try the vista theme also.

----
Update - Tried running the Vista Inspirat 1.1 and recieve same error on install but for skin2.reg ' cannot export c:\windows\brickopacks\crystal clear\uninstfiles\skin2.reg' i click ok and it continues... installing pack...100% cpu hung on extracting file : MSVCR70.dll - left for 10 mins and still hung.. so end tasked the isntall.. after that outlook climbs to 100% and i have to reboot..

interestingly its not nececeraly outlook that does that.. it can be firefox/messenger/ie.

Ok, here is an idea you can try.

Installing the Pack in Windows Safe Mode.

Use the System Configuration Utility to start Windows XP in Safe mode

- Close all programs.
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
- In the Open box, type the following text:
  msconfig
- Click OK.
- In the System Configuration Utility, on the BOOT.INI tab, check /SAFEBOOT.
- Click OK.
- When you are asked to restart the computer, click Restart.

The computer restarts in Safe mode. This can take several minutes.

Try running the installer now, when you are finished:

Use the System Configuration Utility to start Windows XP in Normal mode

- Close all programs.
- On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Run.
- In the Open box, type the following text:
  msconfig
- Click OK.
- In the System Configuration Utility, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck /SAFEBOOT.
- Click OK.
- Close all programs, and restart the computer.

This helped several people already. Good luck!  :great:

Sorry for interrupting in the post, but I just wanted to say that there is much easier way to make the computer boot in safe-mode, and that is to press F8 when the computer boots.... :oui:

I know, but this way is recommended by MSDN, which is part of Microsoft. I guess that way is somehow better/safer then the F8 way, but don't pin me on that.

I too have had this problem but i found a quick fix that works well for me.

I wrote a batch files that kill the pack-it.exe process which lets the installer continue doing its job.
All you have to do is make sure to get the program running once pack-it.exe starts but before your CPU usage gets all the way to 100%

Um, ill upload the files in just a second.
