Hello, Awhile back I installed Bricopack Vista, I then uninstalled it. After uninstalling it my harddrive crashed.
I reinstalled Windows XP on another Harddrive and moved some of the files over.
This was OK for a while, but I found that when ever I installed a new programme, that when I started Windows Internet Explorer 8,
I would get a Black menu, and could only remove it via asystem restore to an earlier date.
I have tried running antivirus programmes and also reinstalling Explorer 8, All to no avail.
I cant find Bricopack anywhere on the harddrive.
How do I remove the black menu.

It doesn't effect Firefox or other browsers.

Jpeg of black menu:

I would be grateful for a solution to this problem.

I'm not entirely sure about this. I think what's happening though is it's trying to be transparent using XP's rendering (which doesn't allow transparency, and makes it black). There must be something that replaced something with a transparent image, which is why it's black.

As for what that something is, I'm not sure. legace may be able to answer though.

Could you try to enable visual-styles? It appears to me as if you are using the Windows 2000 theme and not visual-styles.

Thank you Tanshin and legace for you quick replies.

I had better explain that I didn't reinstall Bricopack Vista, on a new hard drive, and I now think the hard drive crash I had was nothing to do with uninstalling Bricopack, just a faulty hard drive that failed at exactly the same time.

After posting on here, the problems been bugging me for months. I googled "black menu IE 8" and can up with the following solution that worked for me.
-----
IE 8 Menu Bar & Favorites Bar Black

Found the easiest way to recover from this black menu bar bug.

Click on Start button

Log off from user name account.

Log in again and menu bar will return to your original settings :)

I am very glad it worked for me, and I am sorry if I might have blamed a Bricopack installation for this, as it doesn't seem to been their fault.

Once again, thanks for all your help and you quick replies.

Yours Sincerely

Mike Royden.

hi you Just following  these steps and solve your problem
Start -> Control Panel -> Switch on to the Classic View
Open the Accessibility Options and go to the Display Tab
There will be a Small Check box with says Use High Contrast

Please Check that and Click on Apply, Now Your Whole Computer will turn Black in Color... Not to worry about it.
Now Unckeck the Same Box (Use High Contrast) again click on Apply and Ok.

Now you should be able to see the Toolbars in Normal Color. This has fixed on several Computers.

I'm sure it will fix your issue also
