Does the vista inspirat bricopack work on windows xp x64 yet?

Last time I tried it, it killed x64 and wasn't sure if there was an update for it yet (it's been a couple months)

I think BricoPacks are created on WIndows x32 and creators cannot devellop it on x64.

When you boot up your computer, the Windows boot screen will say:

Windows XP
 x64 Edition

It might be eventually.  Keep in mind the authors of the BricoPacks are freeware developers and the hardware and operating system costs are expensive.  If you really want to see some progress for Windows x64 Editions you might want to consider making a donation to help fund a machine for development.

Actually when I boot my computer it just says Windows Xp and doesn't even say whether it's home or professional, let alone whether it is x64.
  Hm.......... weird

I don't know how else to find this out

Then you don't have x64.  the Windows XP x64 edition will always say x64 underneath.

When it just says WIndows XP that means you have updated to service pack 2.  for some reason when Microsoft released SP2 they updated the boot screen to just say "Windows XP" without the edition, yet x64 is still the same.

give me a second to boot my Windows computer and I will show you exactly where the real version information is kept with a screenshot.

*edit:  There are two ways you can get informaiton about your Windows installation.

-> Right click on "My Computer" and go to "Properties" and in the "General" tab you will see what version of Windows along with some basic information.

The other way is:

-> Open up any explorer windows (like C:\;) and go to "Help" then "About Windows" and you will see this panel:

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5336/x646qi.jpg

Which gives even more information like the build etc.

Hope this was helpful

There is only one version of x64 and it will be plastered everywhere, so if you only see "Home" or "Professional" then you should be ok.

I just installed it and everything went fine, the logon screen works, the only problem I'm having is my administrator account is the only one where all the changes of vista inspirat has taken effect.  On my account (non administrator) some icons have been changed, the task/toolbar hasn't and there is no menu at the top.

How can I make it so all the features work on non administrator accounts?

 Thanks

Unfortunately the BricoPack is user (will only apply to one user at a time) specific, and requires administrative rights under Windows XP.  I am actually not sure how to get the entire effect going in non-admin accounts.  :err:

But I can run some tests!    I will post anything I can find.

Hi, I've run some tests on my computer regarding your problem and came out with the following,

:penguin: If a limited account is created after upgrading the system with a Bricopack (vista Inspirat or another) the limited account will share the same icons as the adminstrator.
:penguin: But If a limoted account is been created before the bricopack installation it might not share the new icons (according to my tests, it is hard to say this for sure because I tried to be similer to your stage but I've already installed the first upgrade of the shell pack. But there may be a great possibility.)

:penguin: But whether an administrator account us created befor or after the installation it will share the new upgrades.

Note: though a limited account (belong to any, mentioned above) won't share icons it will let you to apply the new theme. (See pic-1)
Pic-1

http://www.crystalxp.net/forum/uploads/sm/post-15118-1146814162_thumb.jpg

 So here are somethings what you can do,

1. Contact your administrator and ask him/her to change your account type as a 'Administrator'.
2. If the step #1 is not possible, then ask your admin' to delete your current limited account after keeping your personnal files safe. Then ask him to create a new limited account for you.
3. log in to the limited account and search for iconcache.db on your system drive and try deleting it. It may work after a reboot

Note: Deleting iconcache won't affect your system because a new one will be created next time you logon

4. Get tweak UI and try to rebuild your iconcache

:great: Good ucck to you, hoping you'll succeed>

 :jap: Extra*

If none of this helps or possible to do,
1. You can use Icon Tweaker, IconX or Icon packagerto customize your icons.

 Off the currnt topic*

If you need to find the type of windows you areusing Just Right click my computer and choose General tab It will show you the version

And also there is another way, bit like a joke.
When you are using the default windows logo to boot up, notice the progress bar

 If the bar coller is Blue, then you have Windows XP Professional edition (SP1 or SP2)
Pic-3

 And if the bar colour is Green, then you are using Windows XP home edition

Hello, thank you for your help.  I did change my account to administrator, nothing has changed as of yet, however I am not sure if you meant if I changed my account type to administrator the full effects of vista inspirat would take effect.

And also, I really do not want to have my account as admin for long, because of security risks.

Any other help is very much appreciated.

Thanks

Also, judging by the toolbar, I have XP Pro

:oui: Since you have change the account type, try the third step given above. (delete iconcache.dll)
You can also try TweakUI It's recommended by most people to rebuild the icons.

Or else Under administrator type Go Start>All programs>Bricopacks>Vista Inspirat>Update and reboot after the process.

 As the final effort you'll gona heve to uninstall your shellpack and re-install it under your account (here you'll need administrative rights) But bon't follow this step yet because some other may have the another better solution.

:ouch: Edit*: What are the risks you talking about? As for my knowledge Administrator account is the most secure account type you can have...

The administrator account on Windows is actually not the most secure Neil.  It gives the user access over the entire system where as a PowerUser (or lesser account) has more restrictions.  Malware has more of a chance to attack your computer when running as an administrator where as you have a little more protection using a more restrictive account.

It is the same as running as "root" under Linux.  Very bad practice.

I also just wanted to note that I updated my screenshot in this post to show what the Windows About window will look like when running under the x64 Edition.  So for future users if you don't see what is in that screenshot then you are not running Windows XP x64 Edition.

:oui: Thanks for the note skunkie I didn't thought about that side. But though it is a bit challenge to have more useful account type like Administrator I would like to choose it because in that way I can do my habbits (Tweaking)
:oui: But a restricted account like limited is a good type for others who are not like me

if you have a user account and want it customized too take a look here. some of the things said there might help you.
http://forum.crystalxp.net/index.php?showtopic=8979

i personally use a user account and all icons were changed during transformation on both accounts, the only thing that wasn't changed was the theme and some aditional software that comes with the pack is not starting by default but that can be easyly changed. if the icons still are not changed try rebuilding the icon cache as Neil suggested. rebuilding the icon cache should be run from the user account with restricted credentials (no admin rights). as for the theme it can be manually applied. the rest of the software must be only configured to run automatically at startup for the user account and everything should be fine !

There are 64-bit resource editors out there, a quick search on Google for "64 bit resource editor" shows over 7 million results. Obviously i've not looked through many of these, but a lot of them talk about editors that have the capability to deal with 64bit.

I was wondering if there's anythign we can do  to help with creating a 64-bit compatable BricoPack. I have a 64-bit machine and i'm about to install Windows x64, one of the reasons for the delay is not having the choice of my favourite Vista Inspirat theme!

Also, i can help with being a file-mirror if it's any help, if the admins email or pm me then i'll do my best.

Hello

I tried to install the pack on win Xp64bit and it changed the explorer.exe so it doesn´t boot normaly. In Savemode (with visual Surface) i could replace the explorer.exe.
Now i have the problem that images cannot be opened and many other systemprograms like the systemrestore doesn´t work normaly.
Perhaps this infomation could help you or prevent others to install it.

I hope there will be soon a pack for the 64bit version, the MS standard is so boring..

According to this article
 http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enh...tiPatcher.shtml
that patch also should work on a 64bit OS.
perhaps you could use it to make a 64bit compatible Pack.
