| SlapShot Profil: New Penguin | Is is possible to install Vista Inspirat 2 for ALL user's on a PC...without having to install the theme while logged in to every user account? Is it possible so that even new users created will use the BricoPack? Thanks in advance! | |
poiru Profil: Moderator | You can always change the theme manually (Right-click on desktop -> Properties), but if you want to force the users to use a specific theme, you can do that, too - if you have XP Professional. So, the question is, do you have Windows XP Professional?

poiru Profil: Moderator | Ok, from what I understand, you want to force the Vista Inspirat default style, is that correct? If it is, could you post the path of your Resources folder (open start menu -> run... -> type in Resources -> press OK and copy the path from there) so I can post further instructions.

Let me give you a little background. I would like to use the Inspirat 2 theme on our company's desktop image. This comes from the fact that we were going to move to Vista but with the know problems with Vista, the BIG CHEESES decided to stay with XP. What I would like to do is apply the Inspirat 2 theme so that end user's can at least experience the Vista interface without the Vista headaches. Now, on top of that, I need to know if just the Inspirat 2 theme can be installed minus the Inspirat background, Inspirat login GUI, or Inspirat sounds. Is this at all possible? On top of this original post...where the theme is installed on ALL user profiles. Thanks!

poiru Profil: Moderator | If you only need the Vista theme (no vista-style icons, etc.) its easy. If you want to install the theme, icons, and some other stuff, you can select Custom Install in Vista Inspirat setup. The themes are usually in the Resources folder. I'll can't remember it now, but I'll post it later on how to make the default the Vista Inspirat for all users.
codenamem2k Profil: Big Penguin | Man, I think during the installation, you get an option to select whether the theme should be installed only for your account or also for others

Legace, Thanks for the info. Im eager to get the information on how to make the Vista Inspirate the defualt theme for ALL users. Just to be clear, I want to use the Vista theme WITH the vista-style icons. What I don't want to use are the sounds and the Inspirate Logon/Logoff GUI. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall the program and see of selecting the Custom will work this time. I had originally installed the program with everything but then went back and reinstalled using custom without the GUI or sounds but when I rebooted after the istallation, I still had the sounds and GUI. I'll give it one more try.
poiru Profil: Moderator | To FORCE (users CAN'T change the visual style then) a certain visual style: Start menu -> Run... -> type in gpedit.msc and press enter -> browse to: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Display\Desktop Themes Now, set the Visual style value to: %windir%\resources\Themes\Luna\Luna.msstyles (for default XP theme... For Vista Inspirat it should be something like: %windir%\resources\Themes\Inspirat2\Inspirat2.msstyles) --- To make the theme DEFAULT, use the theme you wish to be default, and then you should copy the values from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes TO HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes If you need help on this, let me know. Hope this helps

Legace, So far so good But I'm a little confused about something. When I open the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes path it displays the following (with the Inspirat 2 theme installed): InstallTheme - %ResourceDir%\themes\Luna.theme InstallVisualStyle - %ResourceDir%\themes\Luna\Luna.msstyles Why does it display the Luna style theme?? I was expecting it to read something like: InstallTheme - %ResourceDir%\themes\Inspirate2.theme InstallVisualStyle - %ResourceDir%\themes\Inspirate2\Inspirate2.msstyles Does the Inspirate2 program just copy it's config into the currently loaded theme...Luna.msstyles file? What does the %ResourceDir%\themes\Inspirate2 folder represent?

Legace, I'm still getting the Inspirat Logon/Logoff GUI, even though I did not enable it during installation. Any idea why? Also, did you get a chance to read my last reply? Thanks for your help!
poiru Profil: Moderator | Thats odd, I get the VistaInspirat.msstyle in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes.. Make sure you use the theme, and then reboot, and see if it has changed. --- Logon GUI So, do you want the original XP logon back? You can restore it easily with a simple registry edit. Let me know if thats what you want..

Legace, I have been using the theme for days with several reboots. Matter of fact, I am using the theme right now and just looked at my "HKCU\...\Themes" setting and it shows the same entry...Luna.msstyle. What should I do?? And yes, I want the original XP logon...unfortunatly. Corporate won't go for the CrystalXp.net brand name...sorry! Thanks again!
Asher Genius is not born , it is made.... Profil: Moderator | I don't remember the way bricopack changes logon file , may be it places XP's original logoui.exe on another place and puts a new one in its place , or it does so through registry but I can tell you how to restore XP's original logon in both cases Start registry editor and go to "HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\" , locate 'UIHost' from the list on right side and put 'logonui.exe' for it's value it should do the job , but if it doesn't then do this : Download this file and put it in C: drive , now open Command and type this: expand c:\logonui.ex_ c:\windows\system32\logonui.exe I am sure this will work

Asher, First, I checked the registry as you directed and the UIHost already stated "logonui.exe". Just to make sure that it was not a different file with the same name, I downloaded the 'LOGONUI.EX_' file and installed it as you suggested. Upon reboot, the "Vista Inspirate" GUI was still being used. Back to the drawing board!

Classic! Thanks! | |
poiru Profil: Moderator | So.. Here it is.. 1) Download ResHack (google it) 2) Open ResHack -> open C:\WINDOWS\BricoPacks\SysFiles\29_msgina.dll 3) Save resource BITMAP 107 to your desktop. 4) After you've done that, close ResHack (DON'T SAVE!! , open it again, and open C:\WINDOWS\system32\msgina.dll 5) Now, you have to replace multiple bitmaps. Replace BITMAPS 107, 129, 136, 137 with the BMP on your desktop. 6) Close ResHack AND SAVE THE MSGINA.DLL FILE TO YOUR DESKTOP 7) Now go to the system32 folder with explorer. There, change the name of msgina.dll to msginaold.dll 8 ) Copy the msgina.dll from your desktop to the system32 folder. Reboot and you should be back to the XP style Classic login
SlapShot Profil: New Penguin | Legace, Thanks...I will give it a try and let you know what happens.

SlapShot Profil: New Penguin | Legace, This worked GREAT!!! Thank you soooo much!
SlapShot Profil: New Penguin | Another question...if you don't mind? Because I'm NOT using the "Welcome Screen" there is no 'Picture' associated with the user; therefore, no picture is diplayed on the Inspirat-Startbutton menu. Is there a way to add a graphic so that a picture is displayed on the menu for every user instead of a white box? In other words...one picture for ALL users. Thanks again for your help!!
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Maybe use the logon-screen (and the userpicture will work) ? It`s not that secure to surf with the admin-account, maybe create a internet-account Or use the logon-screen, choose a userpicture and turn off the logon-screen?
