| Dxon Profil: New Penguin | Do you want to know why? I'll tell you why. *Big inhale* I'll start at the beginning. I download Crystal Clear for XP (have sp2). Installed and it was fine. I was happy with it. After a while I got bored of it. So I uninstalled it (can't really remember if the problems already were there..), downloaded Vista Inspirat 2 and installed that. Was happy with that too. Now here's the problem. I got bored of Vista Inspirat 2 so I uninstalled it. But... Crystal XP animations, icons and in general system programs were still there. No msstyle though. But the icons are there. So is the animation and some other stuff. I'll post some pictures of most problems. Picture links:
I tried this to fix all of this: - Deleting of iconcache.db in C Documents and Settings/user_name/Local Settings/Application Data. Not possible since iconcache.db wasn't there. - TweakUI. Icon repair. Didn't work. It just didn't. - Getting Crystal Clear again. Installing it. Uninstalling it. Problem still there. I'm out of options I think and I really do NOT want to reinstall windows fully. I think the problem lies in shell32.dll and explorer.exe. Could be some other things too.

I agree, do a windows-online-update, maybe install SP3, this will overwrite your systemfiles

Getting a little off-topic here.. DataStream, I don't think you can reverse back to the origanl XP theme, icons, etc. without a repair install. You see, the Bricopack / SysFiles folder should contain the ORIGINAL XP .exe and .dll files. However, you have modified versions of them there, which means that you do not have the original versions of them in your PC.. Did you install Vista Inspirat on top of Crystal Clear, because thats the way this could've happened..

SP3 is not a good idea. It has a lot of bugs and security problems. Windows update maybe. I'll try that first. poiru wrote :

I think I did? I guess... Still weird though because I really DID use the uninstall. Repair install.. I have a question about that. Windows XP Setup CD's have a maximum use of installs. So if I would do a repair install, would that decrease the amount of times I can do an install of XP again? I have been thinking. If someone sends me his/her shell32.dll and explorer.exe and I overwrite mine. Will that solve the problem?

Well from the screenshot, I can tell that you need atleast shell32.dll and msgina.dll (the shutdown box). If someone sends them to you, they NEED to be in the same language as your PC.. Then you would have to replace your current ones with the ones some files sent you. Oh. I just realized.. If you have the XP CD, then look into the E:\i386 [where E: is the drive of your CD] folder to see if you have the files you need there Tell me if you find the files there, and I'll tell you how to replace..

I got the XP preinstalled and the CD on a seperate partition on my pc. (D ) I can't get in the I368 section though. It's locked and I can't go in. I'll look up my XP CD I burned from the partition. [edit] I found the CD's and DVD's. I have a CD with Compaq 'herstelwerkset' (=Recovery tools. Or something) and 2 DVD's with Compaq Recovery DVD. Which one? Or how do I get into the partition? poiru Profil: Moderator | It should be in one of the CD. You can test And the partition is protected.. I don't think you can access it..

Really? (excuse me anyway)
Dxon Profil: New Penguin | Well after a long time no replying and fiddling around trying to fix this problem. I've found the answer. My dad has a pc too. So I just take the needed system files from his computer. (copying of course) And then use Replacer to replace them. And that works. Already did shell32.dll and explorer. I couldn't find anything on the cd's except for the folders. But not the files.
poiru Profil: Moderator | Good that you finally solved the problem
Dxon Profil: New Penguin | You guys might want to check the uninstallers supplied with the bricopacks. They don't work correctly. They don't replace all of the pack files with the original system files on uninstall. Better fix that to make sure these kind of things won't happen again.

They worked prefectly for me And the installer is made with NSIS, which I trust and use.
Dxon Profil: New Penguin | Bytheway.. On my dad's pc I didn't find two files or so. helpctr.exe mgiwiz.exe (or something like that) some dll and some other dll. I don't know about those and what they do. But I have no problem from not having those, I think.

I agree ... try to do an online-update after you replace all files
