| dallasv Profil: New Penguin | After installing vista inspirat 2 and restaring, I found that after logging into windows, I was staring at a blank desktop. Turns out explorer was no longer starting, and further more when I attempted to start it froma command prompt or create a new task to open it, it told me that explorer.exe was not a valid win32 application. Has anyone else had this problem? I had to dir to wow64 and load that version of explorer.exe.. Very crazy. I have a feeling Spybot search and destroy may have forbidden Inspirat from making some changes to my registry. Now everything is screwed up. Anyone care to lend me a hand? | |

Hi Dallasv ! What kind of folder is this ? Are you use a 64bit XP ? Did you install the Bricopack in safemode (press F8 during bottprocess) ?
dallasv Profil: New Penguin | I'm using 64 bit XP, and that's just a part of the normal windows file structure in XP 64. No, I didn't install it in safemode because I didn't notice anything which said that might be a good idea, in fact my installer disclaimers were in french. So, I've attempted to remove the vista inspirat 2 through the bricopack uninstaller (did not work) and remove.exe (which did not work). Also, my wow64 explorer fails occasionally when Inspirat attempts to do something interesting with windows that pop up.

poiru Profil: Moderator | Vista Inspirat (or the other Bricopacks) DO NOT work with 64 bit systems.. I guess the uninstaller fails, because it was not designed for a 64 bit system. I suggest you do a repair install of XP.

I agree ... Don`t you read this warning at the bricopack-downloadsite ?
Quote :
- First, make sure that the pack is compatible with your system (to check you system`s information, right click on "my computer", then, click on "proprieties" . Here is the list of compatible systems : - Windows XP - Windows XP SP1 - Windows XP SP2 - Windows Server 2003 - Windows XP Media Center (SP1, SP2 or without SP) - Windows XP Tablet Edition Be careful, this pack isn`t compatible with 64 bit versions (x64) of Windows XP - You must uninstall other software like Bricopack, ShellPack or CustoPack before the installation of a new Bricopack. - We don`t guarantee the compatibility of our Bricopack with modified (Gold, Light, LSD) versions of Windows - You must have "administrator" rights in Windows XP to install this pack safely. - If for X reasons your machine not work with the first boot following the installation of the pack, you can restore your system: Put your CD of XP in the reader and launch the restore console. Type "R" at the invites setup. You have the console with prompt "the c:\WINDOWS >", type: "BATCH BricoPackUninst.txt". Type EXIT when the operation finished.

I would say try to uninstall the Bricopack in safemode (press F8 during bootprocess) Maybe this replace all your 64bit files, if you still get errors: Perform a repair-install of XP, this will only overwrite systemfiles, no format c needed and all your programs still work ...
Dark_RAIDEN_ Profil: Big Penguin | hi! i got problems with Vista Inspirat 2 too. When i shutdown logoff etc.. instead of getting like "Windows is Shutting Down" i get "9". Maybe some parser error i dont know but i uninstalled the pack and its still like this. Any1 help me plz??
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Did you uninstall it in safemode ? (now it´s to late, do it next time) Did you create a system-restore point ? Maybe update windows, or do a repair-install, read above ...

er, i think the restore point got deleted and my computer already came with XP Home Edition SP2 so i can't repair-install cos i need XP SP2 CD which i don't have and Microsoft has sold out of Xp anyway cos of not enough serial codes i think...
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Maybe windows-update will replace the corrupt file with a new version ? I`m not sure, I think for a repair-install you can use the XP-CD from a friend too
| |

If your friends CD has SP2, 64bit, and the same language, you can do a repair install
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Yes, thats a good idea too - I think SP3 will overwrite most systemfiles ... Or like Legace said, if your friend has SP2-64bit and the same language, you can do a repair install
Dark_RAIDEN_ Profil: Big Penguin | like but my computer isn't 64 bit like legace said. It's a 32bit Intel celeron Duo.
| |
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Sorry, it`s the same with 32Bit and a 32Bit CD from your friend ...
Dark_RAIDEN_ Profil: Big Penguin | hi, the repair install didnt work. I dunno why but it jus says "error! could not install to the directory....etc." im getting very annoyed cos microsoft are taking ages for xp sp3!?!?!?! I might aswell get windows vista...
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | I`m not sure, I think the SP3-BETA is out ... google for it
| |
Dark_RAIDEN_ Profil: Big Penguin | SP3 BETA is not good. Its beta, thats means it is a "work in progress". It has tons of bugs.

No, maybe the first BETA, but SP3 is now RC2 now (Release Candidate 2, not very much difference between the final) I read about 340 MB and 1.000 Updates/Patches

its ok i'll jus wait for final microsoft official version. Thanks anyway!
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Maybe search your c:\windows for "explorer.exe", usualy Windows has 2-3 backups for systemfiles ... Maybe you find another explorer.exe in DLLCACHE/Prefetch, then replace the Exe with the Ex in c:\windows
| |
poiru Profil: Moderator | By the way, if you install the Beta versions of the SP packs, you cannot uninstall them [or install the official version]
Dark_RAIDEN_ Profil: Big Penguin | see! i told u Breakfastclub that SP3 beta has tons of bugs. even legace says it.
8942th Profil: Penguin | sp3 is for users that do not modify their system that much... it can simply kill ur system in the worst case
ry-daly666 Profil: New Penguin | im having the same problem but i dnt no if i had 64bit wen i installed it, it worked wen i installed the pack then i uninstalled it and it still worked, bit l8r on it stopd workin
Breakfastclub Profil: Penguin Pro | Hi ry-daly666 Try windows-update (maybe it replace the file with a new version) or google for "repair install xp" ...
