uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Hehe, where I'm going to college, students in Computer Engineering get most Microsoft products (e.g. Windows, Office) for free (or for 10-20 dollars if they're brand new releases)! Only if I want to upgrade to professional will I have to pay about $50 more. ---------------

ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | Varies in Europe though, where Microsoft claim that regulations imposed upon them stop them from offering updates at discounted prices... what a load of Bull$hit. They just want to make the EU regulatory people look bad, all they wanted was users to have a fair choice of browser. I fully intend not to get Windows 7 - I have better things to waste money on, like stubbing my toe or buying a fence made of paper. I'll live with vista/Ubuntu until I buy a mac. Though I suppose it's worth congratulating Microsoft on (hopefully) improving on Vista a bit. I might need update to survive. I'll see what performance improvements are like according to users. But Macs suck ... why would you want to waste twice the money on them ... ? ---------------

ghostnatyphon To die would be a great adventure. Profil: Penguin Pro | Could someone, probably Uttaresh , quickly go over the differences between Windows 7 home premium, and professional? Cheers
I'm going to pre-order probably, I only pay that 49.99 right?
Gruzz Profil: Moderator | Here you go. I think it's silly that you need Ultimate for the OS to work in all languages.. That should at least be in Professional, and perhaps even Home Premium.
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Basically, the only advantage of Professional is that it has Windows XP compatibility mode. If you don't even care for that, go with the basic version.
I remember I bought Professional when XP came out. Two-three years later, I bought Home. Had no difference whatsoever. ---------------

Uhm, no? These are 2 different operating systems.. With each OS release, there is a 'normal' version and a 'server' version. That's it.

All Mac OS X. And Snow Leopard is a lame name. Couldn't they come up with some other wild cat's name? You know, they could've been planning on naming it Cougar, but of course, it's now taken up by older women looking for ... never mind ... Oh, and notice that Cheetah and Leopard almost the same. That's not really a statement that makes any sense? They are all different OS's, it just show they're based on the same 'base of code'. From Wikipedia: Windows 2000 Windows XP (Windows Server 2003) Windows Vista (Windows Home Server and Windows Server 2008) Windows 7 All Windows NT! Quote :

Probably to show that it's not a big-feature wide improvement. At least none that a lot of users can see directly. But most of it 'under the system' improvements.

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | LOL, have you ever even used Windows NT? There's no way you can compare it with XP, Vista, or 7. If you say all Windows are alike, I might as well say all Mac OS are alike, hence that Mac OS X is still Mac OS 1.0! No, I'm saying that Mac has been running the same OS X for almost ten years now with no major upgrades. Comparing NT to XP, well there's a huge change. No more BSOD for one thing. And no, it's because they've run out of names. The only two prominent cats that are left are lions and cougars. Mac OS X Lion or Mac OS X Lioness sounds pathetic, and Mac OS X Cougar sounds like a special edition for promiscuous older females. OOOHHHH, how about Mac OS X Garfield!? That would be AWESOME! ---------------
