Wednesday, in Las Vegas, Consumer Electronique Show (CES) 2009, a trade show devoted to technological innovations in electronics, begun.
Yesterday evening, during the Microsoft conference, Steve Ballmer, PDG of Microsoft since 2008, announced that the first beta of their new operating system, Window 7, will be available : officially today by members of MSDN, TechBeta and TechNet, and tomorrow by people at large. uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | You know, I never got it. Is MSDN supposed to be exclusive or something? 'Coz I've always been able to get the latest betas (and even Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition) from it for free ... yet most people complain they have to pay for it. ---------------

Gruzz Profil: Moderator | I never heard of paying for this. The Visual Studio Express Edition has always been free. Perhaps the people you heard from thought that they had to pay when they read that you had to register?

TheVestel PHP Programmer Profil: Big Penguin | By the way, this news article is not right. It says: Attention, the Windows 7 Beta is going to be available for a limited time to the first 2.5 million people who download it. But it means: If you want to try Windows 7 Beta till August 2009, you must download it as one of the first 2.5 million users. If you're later, then you can only use it for 30 days.
TheVestel PHP Programmer Profil: Big Penguin | I just got four keys and I'm installing 7 right now. It's finishing the installation. Yesterday evening, I already had 7, but I lost XP because I hadn't created a new partition for it. By the way, my ASUS drivers don't work with 7 (Because I actually use XP). But now, XP won't crash anymore because I installed 7 in Virtual PC 07.
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | Just to notify everybody you can't download it right now, Microsoft obviously didn't think about how many people were actually going to download this and are currently in the process of hooking up a few more servers to deal with it. They're going to re-post the download as soon as they have a "Quality download service" so we could be waiting a while. On an evil anti Microsoft note, good to see they're another step closer to replacing vista. Apparently they've listened to people and what they want, so they made it faster, they made it not take 3 hours to start working, they got rid of the horrible vista interface by removing the text... oh and they didn't add workspaces. Hm. (Don't mind me, I hate microsoft, what with using vista and all) Message edited by ghostnatyphon on 01-10-2009 at 06:40:45 PM ---------------

Enigmatux Profil: Top Penguin | The launch of Windows 7 beta was so successful that the servers were quickly saturated. Besides, Microsoft had to suspend provisionally its downloading to improve the situation. And it is late in the evening of Saturday that everything became again in order.
Good news for people who didn't download this new version :
on Windows 7 blog, developers announced that due to an enormous surge in demand, they decided remove the initial 2.5 million limit on the public beta for the next two weeks (thru January 24th). During that time you will have access to the beta even if the download number exceeds the 2.5 million unit limit. For downloading Windows 7 beta, it is by this way.

TheVestel PHP Programmer Profil: Big Penguin | @Enigmatux: Good news who didn't download it? That's a strange syntax. It doesn't matter if you already downloaded it or not, the point of this news article is that windows 7 has been released. Not if it's good or not. In my opinion, a news poster has to be neutral. However, it IS true that Microsoft servers were too busy. But: people who downloaded Windows 7 did that via another site: Technet. The official windows 7 homepage (http://www.windows7.com) showed the download link only after the servers were stable again. And again: everybody can download it, but only the first 2.5 million users who got a key, can use it till August 2009. Message edited by TheVestel on 01-13-2009 at 07:38:06 PM
