This is very tempting... except I don't want to go down the formatting road again... it was horrible enough last time... (Vista once again is determined there is no space to format -jeez!)

And besides, what difference is there that will massively change my life? Not enough.

I would try it, if I could remove it in Add Or Remove Programs etc. Should I try it or not? Currently, I'm swayed towards "not".

Try it with dual boot using a separate partition.

How do you dual boot Vista and 7?

Like any other OS. That's what I always did, until I fully switched.

If you can't shrink in Vista, you can always shrink in the Windows 7 installation.

That doesn't really help. Any other OS I'd partition, run the install DVD/CD and then it'd set up a bootloader (GRUB) and Vista would fail.

Install 7 to a seperate partition and it'll install it's own bootloader and have Vista and 7 in the list.

Oh ok, I didn't realise it would add its own bootloader :) Only thing, I can't partition in Vista and partitioning with anything else wrecks Vista :/

I just looked in the Windows 7 install and I can't seem to find how to shrink the drive. There is no option in the "Choose a partition/drive" area.

If you knew how to do it with a command prompt, you could always try that instead using the Repair your computer link before installing. I don't know if it would work though...

You could always install it virtually.

The W7 bootloader is still the bcdedit type so EasyBCD works with it.

EDIT: Have you tried a program like Partition Magic?

I've tried many programs, do we not remember my little OpenSuSE episode? :p

And I get a lot of trouble with Virtual Machines, which may be because I'm on a 2Gb laptop...

Well, you could always do what I did. Make a complete system backup, make a list of the programs you need (for easy remembering later), and completely go over Vista with Windows 7 (meaning formatting from the installation and use only Windows 7).

I will never go back to Vista. Even though 7 is a beta version, I have less problems there than I do with Vista.

But Windows 7 RC will eventually conc out on me, with the date expiry thing... And I don't want to invest money in Windows 7, since I plan to swap to a Mac as soon as I get a uni placement sorted :/

EDIT: I have a 60gb Hardrive, currently still sitting in my old laptop, which is too poor quality to keep using by anyone, but is there any way I can use that hardrive from this laptop? That'd give me an external hardrive... and if I can keep it in the old laptop with that on I'd have a fan :p Sounds ludicrous to me, with my little computer knowledge even so :/

Free Windows 7 upgrade in my soon-to-be laptop! With the most awesome specs and a HUGE monitor, all for the same price as a 13" MacBook Pro. :he:

Just a tip uttaresh, I wouldn't go for anything larger then 15 inch. At least if you expect to carry it around from home to school, etc. :) Also check the build quality of the laptop.

Wow, you may be 13, but sure do whine worse than a 6 year old ... a 6 year old girl! :p

And I was just trying to say that I don't mind carrying a large laptop around ... it's only 2 pounds or so heavier.
