16 terabytes....hmmm maybe if windows supported that much ram. just maybe it would run smoothly.

64-bit versions of Windows should theoretically support 16 terabytes of RAM
What I expect to improve both Windows and Linux performance, is Braidwood.
As you can see from the image, under the 4 RAM slots, there is a smaller slot for flash memory. According to Intel, you can put upto 16GB of flash memory (which is much faster than traditional harddrives) to drastically improve performance.
I am not sure about it, but if you could install your OS there, you'd have insane boot speeds
Unfortunately, Braidwood will only be available for Nehalem processors, which means I can't enjoy that technology for quite a while. I just upgraded my PC, and I'll wait atleast 2-3 years until I upgrade again Message edited by legace on 06-06-2009 at 05:12:05 PM ---------------

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Nehalem ... that's Intel's Eight-Core processor family, right? Or is it the one that's working on the Eight-Core?
But yeah ... installing your OS on flash ... it'll be as fast as my iPod! (Well, very fast anyway) ---------------

Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | That would be quite insane. However the only downfall would be that some things will only install to where the OS is, so it would fill quite fast. ---------------

No, Nehalem is Intel's new processor architecture 8-core processors based on the Nehalem architecture will be available later this year.

Yeah, but I suppose the system could RAID-0 the flash disk and your harddisk (or a partition) so that it'd continue (and not fill up).
Or maybe Braidwood will function as a very fast cache (stuff thats used frequently [core system files, frequently used apps, etc.] could be cached there for faster access). This would be more logical IMO, but we'll have to wait for Intel to release Braidwood officially to know what it will be actually used for/as. uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Well I've decided I'm going to assemble my PC myself! I want it to be easily upgradeable and tuned to my personal needs. Will probably get a Core i7 @2.8GHz+ with 400GB HDD, 8GB RAM, GeForce 9+, etc. Hope I can get that Flash memory slot, too.
Anyway, I'm gonna be asking for your opinion and help a lot, Legace, so make sure you're still there in August-September! ---------------

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | I don't care for "cheap". I'm not paying less, I'm still paying the same. I'm just getting a faster configuration for it.
Anyway, since I probably won't be buying a Mac now, can we just let this thread go? ---------------
