hi !!! i have installed in my red hat 9. i have checjed that it has been installed properly .  now if i want to install any media player or messenger by yum what should i do ??? the steps i used to take is like that..............

 

1) download  installers in my home folder.
2) double click on it and do things according to instruction.
3) open terminal.
4) change $ to # by using su -
5) change directory to my home
6) yum install  name

 

but this steps give me an error that "no packages found matching ......."

 

plz tell me what should i do now ????

Hi,

 

You don't need to download any RPMs to use YUM. For exemple, if you want to install aMSN, just type # "yum install amsn". The dependencies will come with. Don't try to type "yum install amsn-xxx.rpm".

i have done it.......... but still error comes " no package found matching......"

I don't know RedHat... but I have Fedora Core 5 and YUM has worked perfectly to install aMSN.

try typing
yum --help
to find the proper usage of yum, and to find a search feature
