| daiashi Profil: New Penguin | While I have tryed many flavors of linux distros such as mandrake, mandriva, ubuntu, kubuntu, suse, noppix, slackware, the list gos on and on. I purchased a copy of suse several years ago,but alast pclinuxos took my heart. Not just because of its ease of use but the community as a whole. Sometimes happy sometimes sad and sometimes just bickering. We are like one big family.Started years ago by Textar, one of the best rpm package maintainers I have ever seen for mandrake. He had one goal.To make a easy to install and maintainable os and he did it.Ok OK thats two goals but anyway it uses rpms and together with synaptic he has pulled in the best of several distros in one.Runs as a live cd as can be installed with a few clicks.Well sorry for the rant but I felt I needed to share this with everyone here who is not aware of this fine ditro. So head on over, download your favorite copy, minime junior,or bigdaddy for free and give it a whiral.Bigdaddy is what you need for a complete multimedia experience.Slow download,no problem, download from here for a small fee witch some of it goes to help tex develope pclinuxos.ondisk Also here for pclinuxos.pclinuxos

moa18e i haz a leaf. Profil: Penguin Pro | Another fan of PCLinuxOS ? komm ! I got a new friend for you ... Maybe I should try this distro once
enigma- Profil: New Penguin | I have tried PCLinuxOS before, I liked it; unlike most RPM-Based distros I have tried (SuSE 10 OSS, Fedora Core 5+4, some others I cant remember) I had very few problems. I for once didnt fall into rpm dependancy hell. Texstar, I agree, does an excellent job of keeping this very promising distro moving in the right direction. I also, which seems to be mandrake's menu stuff, got my PPPoE running flawlessly. I have to say that I was impressed. I do have a few qualms with PCLinuxOS, though, it isnt all good. 1.) RPMs are always a headache, although this particular one wored relativly well with apt4rpm, I still dont trust them (scarred for life ) I much prefer Debian packaging, or gentoo's compiling package system. 2.) I didn't switch to linux to look at Willy Gates' playskool GUI. I have never been a real KDE fan, (osnap, another GNOME/XFCE/iceWM fanboy ) If I were you, I would go test it out, but if you want to try a starter distro, I would go with MEPIS definately. http://www.mepis.org/
