| KryptoKnight Profil: New Penguin | Okay so recently my memory usage has gone up alot. My Firefox usually uses around 100K every time now. Also YahooMessenger uses 50K which usually doesn't happen.Lastly the System process is always using 63K now? Is this normal and what dcan I do to lower this?I checked for viruses using AVG and there are none? Could somebody please suggest me what to do? Thanks much! | |
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | My Firefox can use as high as 300K at times. It's only natural, considering the increased quality of content on the web. Images are larger and shinier (at least on this site), videos are smoother, almost each site has Flash. So it's only natural for your browser to take more memory.
As for Messenger, I can't really say. But each new version, there are improvements. Higher memory consumption is obviously expected.
My system process uses 64K, so I guess that's normal too. ---------------

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Perhaps, but it's worth it if you have the extra RAM. Which I assume most people on this site does, as Photoshop takes GBs of RAM. ---------------

Gruzz Profil: Moderator | I like Chrome a lot actually. It's starting up very quick to name just one thing. Much quicker then the current version of Firefox does. Message edited by Gruzz on 04-09-2009 at 06:51:02 PM

I have the same problem, my System process is using 64,496k. The cause is AVG 8. I've uninstalled it and the System process got down to 256k. After installing again AVG 8 , my System process is using 64,468k (Mem Usage)
This is AVG's response:
Previously the virus database has been loaded in context of specific process of AVG. Since build 8.0.233, to bring more stability, the virus base is loaded in different process' thread. This doesn't mean, that AVG is using more memory while installed, it is using still the same amount, however attached on different process (System at this point). | |
