Hi everyone!
I am i542 and this is my first post (and first tutorial here). Hope it's not last!
I will be creating a Terminal Window icon. This is the result I got:
http://www.i542.net/tutres/cmd_line_icon/Result.png
Section I. Creating icon
1. Bring up new document [CTRL+N], sized 256 x 256 pixels with transparent background
2. Use Rounded Rectangle Tool [U] to made a base...here:
http://www.i542.net/tutres/cmd_line_icon/Step2.png
3. Now double-click on layer with rounded rectangle (that will bring up the Layer Style dialog) and use these settings as Gradient overlay:
http://www.i542.net/tutres/cmd_line_icon/Step3.1.png
...and Drop Shadow.
http://www.i542.net/tutres/cmd_line_icon/Step3.2.png
4. Create new layer. Use Rectangle Marquee Tool [M] to select a rectangle in rounded rectangle. Fill it [SHIFT+F5] with black color.
5. Double click on layer with rectangle and use these settings as Stroke:
http://www.i542.net/tutres/cmd_line_icon/Step4.png
6. Type text [T] in terminal with some coolish font and in white color. I used Stencil Std.

Section II. Adding Gloss
1. Create new layer, name it „Gloss“.
2. Select white [FFFFFF] as your foregrounding color. Select Gradient tool and use settings below:
http://www.i542.net/tutres/cmd_line_icon/Step2a.png
3. Use Round Marquee Tool to select part where you want for gloss to appear.
4. Draw a gradient from top to half of image. Then control-click on layer with black rectangle. Select Inverse [CTRL+SHIFT+I] Make sure the gloss layer is selected, then press Delete button.

You are done. Any criticism/compliments are welcome

Nice Effect!
I like it
Might try it later.

Umm...
Could I ask you to make your signature smaller though.
It's bigger than my screen width!

Perhaps have a look here. :oui: You can easily put a crystal look on the object with the round selection tool. Just make a selection and fill it with a white color or gradient. :happy2:
