:hello:

Today I will show you how to create a 'spalsh screen' or greetings type image like this:

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/eg%20thumb.png      http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/eg2-thumb.png

Before we start you will need 2 files,
1 http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/ [...] 0Efect.atn
2 http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/ [...] /Glass.grd

Step 1, Setting Up

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif  Open Photoshop, Find a nice image that you think will make a decent Backrouund and open it, make any image ajustment now

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-1---Select-image.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif  Crop a section or just use the whole image, (mine is huge so ill crop it :D)

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-1---Crop.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif open the downloaded File "Glass%20Efect.atn" (just click it then Photoshop should open) If you do not already have your actions tab up you will need to open it by going to window>Actions (or Alt+F9). Click The Little arrow on the "Glass" Folder  :ah:

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-3---Open-the-glass-folder.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif Now yo have your actions pallet set up and the image croped and ajusted, Select the " Rounded Rectangle Tool" and draw a rectangle that is pretty mutch centered and fills most of the document change the colour of the rectangle to white.

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-4---Draw-Rectangle.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif On the actions Pallet there should be 2 actions in the glass folder, "Glass effect" and "text" highlight "glass effect" and press play MAKE SURE THE LAYER CALLED "SHAPE 1" IS SELECTED!

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-5---play-effect-action.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif This is your basic glass effect image, Now for ajustments! :great:. Duplicate the background layer by Draging it to the "New layer icon" (if your backround layer is locked double click it and press ok to the dialogue box that appears :D )

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-6---duplicate-background-layer.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif CTRL+Click the image of your shape layer to select it, then hide it by clicking the eye and select the second background layer.

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass%20Effect/Step-7---Select-and-hide-the-layer.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif Then go to Filter>Blur>Gaussuan Blurand set the blur to 8PX , if you find 8px too harsh then use the slider until you find a composure you like   In this case i used 2.5 beacause i want to still be able to see a little of the dew drops

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-8---Blur.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif Now here you can leave it be and add text using the "text" action (see step 5) and add a gradient to the text ( --- to white(choose a colour that is in the image!))      http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-9---Text-thumb.png (click)

Retouching (well how to get the first example :D )

Ok this is to get an effect like this    http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/eg%20thumb.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif Hide the blurred backround layer

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif CTRL+Click the shape layer (like in step 7) hide the glass layer and create a new one and go to Select>Inverse (Shift+CRTL+I) now your canvas should look like this,

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-10---Inverse.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif Delete your first glass efect layer "Shape 1" and fill your selction with white if you dont do this it will not work! Simply run the "glass effect" action and it will give you an outer frame (this will give errors just click ok!) Now it will look like this (if you want a larger 'frame' then befor you delete layer 1 and make the selection and run the action, now you should have this)

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-11---Nearly-there.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif Now it is up to you if you want rounded edges or not, if you do then open your "rounded rectangle tool" and select almost all of the image (don't go off the canvas) Like this

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-12---White-rectangle.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif Now CTRL + Click  the shape layer like before and hide it then go to select>inverse

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Step-13---inverse.png

http://www.azureseas.co.uk/images/bullet-point.gif Now merge all the layers and press delete or CRTL+X and you have got your finished product add your text and possibly a drop shadow to the whole thing and your done!  :yipi:

Finished product(s)

http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/eg%20thumb.png      http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/eg2-thumb.png   http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/1/Tutorials/Glass Effect/Final.png

Nice, only thing is I think it would be more helpful to walk us through the layer styles for the glass and text, and actually show setting them (possibly explaining why) than just to provide a file to do it for you - that way you learn more ;)

But not bad :great:

Nice, but personally, I think it looks more like semi-transparent paper instead of glass. :p Glass usually is a little clearer and has gloss. Even the matte one has some reflection. ;)

Don't take it personally, but I am too tired to even open Photoshop now. :(

I might do this... maybe having a go at messing around with the effects though - don't want to just reproduce your work, something a bit different :)

EDIT: http://stor.thetmyster.com//files/3/cxptut.png

Meh. I noticed text isn't centered ;) Nor probably the rectangle

Wow thanks all, i understand uttaresh,

Thanks ghost!

U say you dont want to copy my work, if i did not want u to i woult not say how to do it i like the font and the BG image , did you take it yourself?

everyone that reads this; this is more a tool or tip rather than a piece of art, a splash screen or a abstract background to put a release info etc on for the gallery ( like drago does with his light wings wallpaper)

Uttaresh, try sleeping for a few days then take a day to do nothing at all :arf:  :troll:

By copy, I merely mean I don't just want to follow the tutorial and come out with the exact same result, I wanted to play around a bit ;)

No, I just googled for the image :p the font is Occidental http://www.fontcubes.com/Occidental.font (Preinstalled on my vista laptop)

Dude, I went to Spain in last summer, and it's like the inside of a fridge compared to New Delhi. Temperature as high as 50 degrees C in May, which is about 120-125 degrees F ... and air conditioning doesn't work very efficiently most of the time ... and there are frequent power outages.

I've never tried frying an egg ... but I do know that CD's left in the sun become unreadable, and that several homeless people die each summer from heat and dehydration.
