I am new at making tutorials and i want to make this perfect.  :great:

finishing project should look like this. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t57/snobulls/FoilPaper.png

1. Make a canvas size. I took 800x600.

2. Then choose your gradient tool and choose white to black or dark grey. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t57/snobulls/GradientOptions.png

3. Then click around on your canvas a bit. About 50 times.

4. Go to filters -> Distort -> emboss. Mess around with settings until you get it just right.

Final product - http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t57/snobulls/FoilPaper.png

Canvas is the area of a program where you work and draw :ar: in tutorial , it means that you have to make a document having size 800 by 600 px , I don't think that's the real cause of your problem

Don't you think this tutorial is a bit too short and it should have something more added?

I think that the picture is better like this.   :oui:

I have just selected the color gradient and...

Then go to filters>distort>waves

I think that this effect is much better.

What do you think?

OK, I figured out what's happening here.  Here are the steps I took

First I just started with a new image --  set @ 420 X 300 pixels, advanced options 'Transparency'

Next in the ToolBox dialog, I chose (or clicked on):

Gradient Tool

Then I chose the Gradient 'Metallic Something'.

Look @ the Gradient Options and make sure your 'first' selection is 'Mode:' Normal

Then, use the gradient tool in the image (move gradient from top to bottom) I use CTRL then left mouse button to drag a straight line.

Once you've done that, go back to the ToolBox dialog, and change the Gradient 'Mode:' to Difference.

Go back to the image and 'click' in the image as many times as you want (I did about 10).

NOW, you can go to the 'Filters' menu item in the Image dialog, and select
Filters->Distorts-Emboss

My settings are:

Azimuth 58.24
Elevation: 41.03
Depth: 11

It looks more like foil that way...

Here, you can play with the settings and change it a bit (in the Emboss dialog)

Hope that helps!

-Don
