Well, looking at the CSS file I still see a lowercase 'h'

Why not edit the CSS file with the browsers in the 000webhost area? Or use Dreamweaver instead of Filezilla, or connect to the FTP server manually.

I have used the file browser on 000, hence why it insists the files are right.

And I don't have dreamweaver, I never installed it. I have done all these things!!! :grrrrr:

See, a smart person would've realized by now that if he can't change Header to header, he should change the header in his CSS to Header. :p

Hmmm... thought you said that you had it. You've tried both of the file managers? I find the one that is modeled like XP to be more accurate than the other one.

Also, as I said, try to connect through the Map Network Drive command. Could work...

OK, I've completely reuploaded to a different directory in my server, so this should be working...

http://whiteghost.net46.net/Other/ [...] erface.htm

Somehow I now have a copy of this folder in every single folder on my site, and several in themselves. Filezilla is being binned.

I'm trying to avoid DW, using Aptana as necessary, but mostly just a webbrowser and notepad++ - trying to move to open source stuff, and less proprietary software.

EDIT: I am now going to go to sleep. a) I'm tired  :zzz:  and b) I really want to dream again... :loveit: <--- I completely forgot about that emoticon! :o

Good night in that case (it is quite late where you live, past midnight. However, many developers say that that is when their inspiration moments happen...)

Yep, working at night is when you get most of your ideas. :yes:

Of course, if you're not a professional designer and if you have school to attend, it's not a very good idea. :yes:

And nice to see it FINALLY working.

I'm not professional :p But it's the holidays! And glad someone actually checked my time over here :) I'm usually up till midnight or 1 most days though, I can never get to sleep :/

I share your joy Uttaresh, believe me! I spent an hour just sorting out paddings and heights, and battling with some weird gaps between divs; not to mention fixing the footer...

You know, I think it was for a program called Coda for mac but... I found this plugin that let you insert X amount of Paragraphs, X amount of sentences, etc of the whole "Lorium Ipsum" stuff.

Now, I would like that plugin.

How horrible this tiny little step has been! Making the design? nice and simple. Changing it to html and css? nightmare city. Uploading to server? nightmare city mark 2 :p

Well, I've done some more on this, taken a while, but now my exams are (almost) all over, so I can spend a bit more time on it.

I finished the html page I was doing, and opened up all my browsers to try it out in each. Opening them all, one by one...

Safari: Check. Instantly loads.
Chrome: Check. Instantly Loads.
Opera: Check. Takes a second to load fully.
Firefox: Check. Takes a second to load fully.
IE 8: Computer freezes for 7 seconds. Check. Takes another 7 seconds to load fully. Annoying pop-up welcomes me to IE8. Anoying pop-up #2 invites me to join myHP and AOL.

Well, already IE8 is being naughty, but ah well, a handy reminder of why I don't use it I guess. I then open the web page in each, in turn, to check the columns, the padding and div alignment, and the footer all work correctly, with no nasty bugs.

Safari: Check. Looks great.
Chrome: Check. Also looking great.
Opera: Check. Looks great alongside my Opera skin too!
Firefox: Check.
IE8: See below paragraph:

The div spacing has gone horribly wrong, with gaps and lines everywhere. Before I had this in the others and not in IE. Apparently IE likes web pages not up to standard. Also the footer is completely messed up, again the other browsers hated it when IE loved it. And on top of that, the page isn't even centered! And that is, as far as I know, css standard.

I have found from this, my site so far works great in all decent browsers, anyone using IE will be told to get a decent browser, in the politest possible way, and that IE only works with websites that don't conform to any web standards, and don't contain anything more complicated than:

<html>
 <head></head>
 <body>
    <h1>Hi</h1>
    <p>My site</p>
 </body>
</html>

So, what can I say... screw IE, and burn in hell.

Oh, and also I've just tried to close all the browsers...

Safari: Using to post this.
Chrome: Window closed instantly, application ends in 2 seconds.
Opera: Window closed instantly, application ends in 2 seconds.
Firefox: Window closes almost instantly, application ends in 3 seconds.
IE8: Won't close, see below:

I click the big red X button, and it just beeps at me, like when you click outside of an alert, to grab your attention. It minimises, maximises and works (just, being IE) - but won't close. I can't close the tabs either. It just won't go!!!!

EDIT: Well, I now pull up Task Manager (ctrl, alt, esc - pressing ctrl,alt,delete on vista freezes your computer for 5 minutes while it loads a completely useless screen) and click end task. It beeps at me. Microsoft just won't let it close!!! Well, after mashing the end task button, finally I get the window to end program... then I get the "Windows is trying to find a solution to the problem..." window... how about, destroy IE? Create a decent browser? Not search for a problem because you never find one?

It becomes more tempting than ever to switch to Linux. I am going to make a note, never to open IE ever again, no matter what version, and to leave a message for IE users telling them to donwload anything, anything else. And I won't be buying Windows 7, I can tell you - that can burn in hell too, along with Microsoft. But not the xbox, that's cool :p

EDIT 2: You know, I used Microsoft Update earlier, and, uh, it donwloaded some and said it failed, because it needed to restart first. Fine. I wouldn't call that a fail, more like incomplete but anyway... and I glanced at the "error" thrown up... the error was that an error occured. "Error ######. This error was caused because of error *****." Two completely different errors, but instead of Microsoft saying "Error *****" they invent an error for the error. What the f***?!?!?!

I'm not going to read the entire post, in a hurry right now. But IE always makes double the margins and padding than other browsers. So, if you say:

Code :
  1. padding-right: 10px;

While it will show 10px in all other browsers, it will double to 20px in IE. The solution is simple. Add another line to it, make it:

Code :
  1. padding-right: 10px;
  2. _padding-right: 5px;

All other browsers will ignore the second line, but IE will read it anyway. ;)

A good web-design is compatible with all major browsers; including IE 6.0, IE 7.0, and IE 8.0.

I love Internet Explorer as much as you all do, but I think you are part of the problem here Ghost. ;) Well, not to worry - rescue is here. IE is pretty strict on whether you have character encoding, doctype etc. declared. :yes: Click here to see what's wrong and hopefully you'll be able to fix it. :)

Well at the minute I'm sort of stuck, I can't connect to the server :/ And I still need to do a bit of cleaning up before I validate it anywho. I guess the positive is this gives me more time to do some more to  it :/ Or rather, more time to revise for this test...
