as most of you know i am working on my first web design...    
 
i have nearly  finished the portfolio and i have made this thread amlost in the sense of a blog... Ie all my updates and work on this design, as im doing exams for a while and then in italy/whales it may take some time

Well, your first step for us would be to lower the opacity on the watermark so we can actually see your layout

i went over the top a bit, personally i think that the image box is too bright and so are the thumbnail backgrounds

Actually, I think it looks good. Contrast is a good thing in web design.

I must agree with Tanshin, I don't feel it works It's too sharp and doesn't fit in with the rest of the design  
 
And speaking of things that don't fit in, really nice, huge, can't-see-the-design-past-it, watermark.

Anyways, would it be better if I flipped the button so it pointed to the box, giving ancaption on the pic??

Just put one watermark on the top right corner. Simple and solved
