| uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Last message on previous page: Well Gruzzie Boy, you shouldn't have to horizontal scroll @ 1280 screen width ... Is it just a few pixels or a lot? A screen shot would be appreciated (for all the glitches, if you don't mind). EDIT: Everything looks fine on my Safari, except that the Newest Downloads title isn't being displayed for some reason. EDIT 2: Ah, I see what you mean for Chrome. I'll see what I can do. Message edited by uttaresh on 05-25-2009 at 07:42:02 PM ---------------

Gruzz Profil: Moderator | Here's a screenshot. You're right about the horizontal scroll. However, there are very few Mac users that put that Safari full screen like this I think. And, be nice to small resolutions in general. Edit, you don't have to call me Gruzzie boy.

Hmmmm ... that's stupid. So maybe I'll put in a little code to maximize the window when the page loads?

Forcing things on users is never a good thing. If I where you I'd just make a centered layout. They're much more modern looking anyway.
I'm serious now - stop the nonsense.

I use full screen when I'm on Vista, but if I'm on a Mac then the browser is never maximised EDIT: Yea, leave Gruzzie Boy alone! And he's right, centered is the new... um... whatever used to be popular ---------------

Centering? I thought this was about screen resolution? I guess I'll give it a go ... but it's a little confusing with CSS.

So why do you never maximise on Macs? ---------------

Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | I maximize on a Mac.
Nice layout thus far. I'm liking it, however I do believe that centering is good, and it makes it more professional. ---------------

| |
ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | Well, maybe it's subconscious... I maximise on Windows, I feel immersed in what I'm doing and forget my OS
Just having windows not maximised seems... right on a mac. More right than on windows anyhow. ---------------

| |
Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | lol, I just noticed my content that I "posted"
Spice up your veggies... very creative. The sad thing is, I would post something like that. ---------------

ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | Aw, Tanshin is portrayed so well! I thought I might have posted a diary about my life as a woman, or a video on the best places to shop for all our women needs. ---------------

| |
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Well duh! Everything that I've posted has something to do with the user. For example, you once said you liked making food. So, how do I associate green with food? Veggies! ---------------

Tanshin Profil: Penguin Pro | Hey, so you might want to put something in there about Firefox or Chrome. I was inspired to check out the site in IE after seeing the
-moz-border-radius:10px;
-webkit-border-radius:10px;
lines in your CSS (I'm trying to learn some techniques). The navigation backgrounds are messed up and some other stuff just doesn't look right. I know that you can't have the rounded edges, but the other stuff just looks plain horrible. ---------------

| |
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Yes, I know. IE was never built for CSS, which is why it looks so horrible. There are a few JavaScript snippets available to fix that, I'll do that when I find the link. ---------------

Or you could do a check when the page loads, to see if they are using IE, and if they are forward them to a blank page with a single piece of text: "Please download a decent browser, and try again." ---------------

| |
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Phew! Just tweaked it for Chrome! It took me an hour of hair-pulling confusion. In the end, all it needed was a <br /> tag (Enter/next line). ---------------

uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Well I have had it with IE6!! It doesn't display ANYTHING right! The PNGs all have a grey background! No JavaScript fix can make it look right! The most popular one makes the PNGs repeat in the spare space, the next destroys the layout, the next requires that I rename all my png files, and the last one requires that I add behavior tags in each CSS item I want to make transparent!!!
THIS WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM IF PEOPLE WOULD JUST GET A DECENT BROWSER AND STOP STICKING WITH MICROSOFT'S BULL!!!! ---------------

ghostnatyphon Who Dares Wins Profil: Penguin Pro | Hence why I suggested forwarding IE users to the page that says:
"Please download a decent browser, and try again." ---------------

| |
uttaresh The Penguin Master Profil: Penguin Pro | Actually, an alert now pops up explaining that their old browser cannot display the page correctly; advising them to upgrade to Firefox, or at least IE8.
Does anyone know how to insert links in alert boxes? ---------------
