This is a photo that I just took outside of some petals from a bunch of grouped Daffodil plants. I thought it looked pretty neat:

Thanks guys! I wasn't thinking of enhancing it or anything, but I could give it a shot!

EDIT: Okay, so I did some color modifications to it in iPhoto:

I'm debating to upload some of the other pictures that I took that day...

The best way to achieve the right contrast between shadows and highlights and general lighting is to go to Image>>Adjustment>>Levels.

Move the black slider right to around where the graph REALLY starts to rise. Do the same for white, moving it to the left. For the grey slider, it's normally best to leave it where it is, unless you want to change the overall intensity of the light.

Curves can be helpful, too, as they are more flexible with unlimited number of plots and patterns, but I've never really felt the urge to use them.

I've been wanting to learn using Photoshop to enhance them. But I'm clueless on the curves pallete, etc. I'll be sure to explore them.

I may try Aperture as well.

The only thing that I don't want to do is edit and enhance the pictures so much, that there isn't as much of a resemblance of the original. My grandpa did that with a picture a few years ago, it didn't even look the same. I really like slightly enhanced, or not enhanced at all.

I think he means adding similar effects to the petals, as you would to a tux's feet... hard to understand I'm sure...

The only effects on a tux's feet are 1) An orange to yellow radial gradient for the 3D effect; and 2) A Transparent to white gradient for the shine

I don't think either would be useful in this case ... :/

As I said though, I don't want to make huge changes to the images. They are of nature, and I feel the pics should be as natural as possible. The first image you did just is too changed for my liking...

And I also don't really like the way the highlights look, and I don't want to add anything.
